**Warning: Spoilers ahead for Alien: Earth episode 7.**
The latest episode of Alien: Earth featured a major betrayal by Joe, played by Alex Lawther, who has explained the difficult circumstances that led to his actions.
Following Tootles’s death, Joe, Wendy, and Nibs make a desperate attempt to break out of the Neverland facility, as the hybrid residents finally understand they’ll never be secure there.
Just as they reach the pier, the group is confronted by a team of soldiers from Prodigy Corporation. Nibs bravely stands her ground, but one of the soldiers throws her beloved teddy bear, Mr. Strawberry, into the water – a sad loss!
Nibs flew into a rage and violently tore the soldier’s jaw off. He then turned and attacked Siberian, another soldier fighting alongside Joe. Joe quickly reacted, using an electric gun to stun Nibs, which left Wendy deeply upset by what he had done.
At that instant, Wendy realizes her brother has a side she’s never known, and she’s forced to grapple with the unsettling truth that he views hybrids-including herself-as inferior to humans.

Describing the impactful scene, Lawther explained to Variety that Joe prioritizes the well-being of biological humans above all else, revealing a clear order of importance in who he cares for.
This creates a problem: Joe claims he’s the only one capable of caring for his sister, who is a hybrid, but that might not be accurate.
His willingness to harm Nibs demonstrates that he prioritizes some lives over others. He doesn’t provide Wendy with the support she needs, and she desperately wants him to stop threatening her friends with a weapon.

With only one episode remaining in the season, written by Noah Hawley, Wendy will likely confront her brother about what he’s done. However, it’s uncertain if she’ll ever be able to trust him again.
Okay, so taking those big themes – morality, what it means to be conscious, and the loss of innocence – and dropping them into the already terrifying world of *Alien*? Brilliant. Especially when you involve kids. It instantly adds a whole new layer of creepiness and emotional weight. As an actor, it’s honestly a really thrilling challenge, and it makes for a truly powerful experience.
