Okay, so it looks like RGG Studio might be working on a remake of Yakuza Kiwami 3! Someone spotted a mention of it on their website’s categories list, but they took it down pretty quickly. Luckily, people grabbed screenshots before it disappeared, and it’s all over social media now. Fingers crossed this means we’re getting a new version of a classic!
It’s been several years since the Yakuza series received full remakes, with *Yakuza Kiwami* and *Yakuza Kiwami 2* bringing the first two games to PlayStation 4. Series director Masayoshi Yokoyama mentioned last April that a remake of *Yakuza 3* was planned for the future, and it now appears that RGG Studio is prepared to reveal their progress.
The Tokyo Game Show is almost here, and there’s a strong buzz that Sony will be holding a “State of Play” livestream next week. Previous remakes by RGG Studio, like *Like a Dragon: Ishin*, were first shown during Sony events. Plus, RGG Studio is hosting a summit on September 24th, which could also be where they make a new announcement and share news about *Stranger Than Heaven*.
The third game in the series first came out on PlayStation 3 in March 2010. While a remastered version was later released for PS4 alongside Yakuza 4 and 5, the newer ‘Kiwami’ releases are full remakes, significantly improving and updating the original games.
