Hit Fantasy Movie Smashes Past a Netflix Record No Other Movie or Show Even Comes Close To

Over the last ten years, Netflix has become known for its popular original movies and TV shows, quickly becoming a favorite streaming service for quality entertainment. Shows like *Stranger Things* and *Squid Game* were huge hits, and films such as *The Irishman* and *Marriage Story* received critical praise and awards, making Netflix a serious contender during awards season. With so many well-known titles and talented actors, it’s not surprising that Netflix shows and movies have been viewed hundreds of millions of times. However, one film has recently reached an extraordinary milestone, surpassing all others.

The K-pop horror film, *Kpop Demon Hunters*, continues to break records, becoming Netflix’s most-watched movie ever with over 300 million views – currently at 314.2 million. This surpasses *Red Notice*, which has 230.9 million views. On the television side, *Squid Game* Season 1 remains the most popular series with 265.2 million views, while *Wednesday* Season 1 is the most-watched English-language show, at 252.1 million views.

Can Kpop Demon Hunter‘s Record Ever Be Broken?

Netflix bought the film *Kpop Demon Hunters* from Sony for approximately $20 million, and it proved to be a great investment. The movie was hugely popular with streamers and even reached No. 1 at the box office during a limited theatrical release in late August. Because of its success, Netflix is planning to create a *Kpop Demon Hunters* franchise, with a sequel currently in development. No release date for the sequel has been announced yet.

The upcoming sequel to *Kpop Demon Hunters* has a strong possibility of becoming Netflix’s most-watched title ever. While Netflix has several highly anticipated shows coming soon, including the final season of *Stranger Things*, none have come close to matching the success of the first *Kpop Demon Hunters*. Only Season 4 of *Stranger Things*, released in 2022 with 140.7 million views, has made it into Netflix’s top 10 most-watched shows of all time. Despite some fan fatigue from the long wait, *Stranger Things* Season 5 will undoubtedly attract a large audience when it premieres later this year. However, it would need to significantly surpass the performance of Season 4 to break the existing record.

Many popular Netflix shows have seen their initial success fade over time. For example, while *Squid Game* started strong, later seasons didn’t attract as many viewers-the second and third seasons both fell below 200 million views. This pattern isn’t limited to non-English shows either. *Wednesday* Season 2, released just a month ago, has only reached 95.4 million views, significantly less than its first season. Although a third season of *Wednesday* is planned, it’s unlikely to be as popular as *Kpop Demon Hunters*, given the declining audience interest.

The animated film *Kpop Demon Hunters* quickly became a massive hit on Netflix, and while its popularity might seem sudden, it’s not entirely unexpected. The film boasts a unique animation style, an imaginative story, a fast-paced plot, and a memorable soundtrack – all qualities that make it very appealing. It’s an easy recommendation for anyone seeking enjoyable at-home entertainment, and it will be interesting to see if future installments can achieve the same level of success.
