Xbox Game Pass is losing a popular game series just as a new game in that series is about to come out – a particularly unfortunate timing. While Game Pass boasts a huge library of games from franchises like Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, DOOM, Call of Duty, Forza, and Gears of War, one major series will soon be removed from the service.
Say Goodbye to Ninja Gaiden Games on Game Pass
Microsoft has announced that three *Ninja Gaiden* games will be leaving Xbox Game Pass at the end of September. The *Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection*, which includes remastered versions of *Ninja Gaiden Sigma*, *Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2*, and *Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge*, will no longer be available on the service starting September 30th.
It’s disappointing to see these three Ninja Gaiden games potentially leaving platforms, especially with the new *Ninja Gaiden 4* coming out next month on October 21st. The good news is that *Ninja Gaiden 4* will also be available on Xbox Game Pass when it launches.
With the release of *Ninja Gaiden 4*, many expected Microsoft and Team Ninja to keep the original three games available on Game Pass to attract new players to the series. However, those interested in trying the earlier *Ninja Gaiden* titles through Game Pass now have less than two weeks to do so. Fortunately, each of the first three games is relatively short, taking between 8 and 14 hours to complete. If you’ve been planning to play the entire series on Xbox Game Pass, you’ll need to start soon!
There Is One Saving Grace to These Game Pass Removals
It’s disappointing that the original three Ninja Gaiden games are being removed, but there’s good news: the recently remade *Ninja Gaiden 2*, now called *Ninja Gaiden Black 2*, will stay available on Game Pass for now. *Ninja Gaiden 2 Black* was unexpectedly released in January and quickly became a popular addition to the Game Pass library in early 2025.
If you’re new to the *Ninja Gaiden* series, *Ninja Gaiden 2 Black* is a great place to start. While the original *Ninja Gaiden Sigma* is also good, you can easily begin with *Black*, especially if *Sigma* leaves Game Pass. Plus, it currently looks the best and will feel like a smooth transition into *Ninja Gaiden 4*.
Are the Ninja Gaiden Games Worth Playing?
So, after all that, are the Ninja Gaiden games worth playing? Absolutely. They’re among the greatest action games ever made and paved the way for popular titles like *Bayonetta*, *God of War*, and *Devil May Cry*. Surprisingly, they still play incredibly well even in 2025, making them easy to recommend.
While most *Ninja Gaiden* games are excellent, *Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge* is generally considered the weakest entry in the series. Though it still has the fast-paced combat fans expect, it feels repetitive and its story isn’t very engaging. If you’re trying to experience *Ninja Gaiden* before your Xbox Game Pass subscription runs out, we recommend starting with *Ninja Gaiden Sigma* or *Ninja Gaiden Black* instead.
