One of the Most Played Survival Games on Steam Is Coming to PS5

There are tons of great open-world survival games available now, like *Palworld*, where you collect creatures, and scary games like *The Forest*. No matter what kind of experience you’re looking for – relaxing, challenging, or even something like LEGO – building a base with friends is simpler than ever in 2025. However, one game has consistently topped “best of” lists and Steam charts since 2021, and PlayStation 5 players will soon be able to play it too.

The game I’m discussing is *Valheim*, a popular title inspired by Viking culture. It was first released on Steam in 2021 and quickly became a benchmark for survival games, and rightfully so. Even though it’s still in Early Access, *Valheim* consistently attracts over 40,000 players at the same time – a great accomplishment for a game that’s been in development for four years. Recently, the publisher, Coffee Stain, announced that *Valheim* will also be available on the PlayStation 5.

What to Expect from Valheim on PS5

Valheim is marking its launch on PlayStation 5 with a brand-new trailer, and it’s narrated by the voice of Astarion, Neil Newbon! While the game isn’t expected to arrive on PlayStation until 2026, you can check out the trailer now to get a preview.

Valheim, the popular open-world survival game, recently received a large update on Steam and Xbox. Called “Call to Arms,” the update shows that the developers at Iron Gate are continuing to improve the game, even after several years in early access. The update includes new ways to fight, creatures, items to craft, weapons, and more. Along with the planned release on PlayStation 5, these improvements are all leading up to the official 1.0 launch of Valheim.

Even when *Valheim* launches on PS5 in 2026, it will still be an Early Access game. However, releasing on a new platform will bring the game to an even wider audience, adding to the already impressive 12 million copies sold. Remarkably, *Valheim* has maintained a ‘Very Positive’ rating for years despite being in Early Access, thanks to consistent, large updates that continually improve the Viking-themed survival experience. The game’s popular multiplayer mode is also a key factor in its success, and now even more players will be able to join the adventure.

Great news for anyone excited to play *Valheim* with friends! The PS5 version will let you play with people on PC and Xbox. Just make sure everyone updates to the latest version and turns on crossplay, then you can all build a Viking kingdom together on the same server.

Iron Gate regularly shares updates on the development of *Valheim* through Steam. While they haven’t announced a release date for the full 1.0 version yet, the game is coming to PS5, which will introduce it to even more players.
