Farrah Abraham is stepping up for her daughter.
Now that her daughter, Sophia Abraham, is 16, the reality TV star has shared how she talks openly about sex with her, even though she didn’t receive the same kind of support when she was growing up.
You know, looking back, I really learned about life – and relationships – through *living* it. I often share my own story with young people, talking about my experiences growing up. I truly believe the best way to connect and offer guidance is by being real and sharing what I’ve gone through – it’s about saying, ‘Here’s what happened to me, and how I navigated it.’
She’s a strong advocate for sexual health, and when talking to young people like Sophia, she stresses the importance of open and honest conversations, even if everyone’s experiences are different.
Farrah, who shares her daughter Sophia with her late ex-partner Derek Underwood, believes it’s important to experience both the good and the bad in all aspects of life, including personal relationships. She explains that having these contrasts helps people understand their choices and why they make them.
She intentionally took Sophia to the drugstore to educate her about sexual health, covering both helpful and potentially harmful products and information.
Farrah, who became known from the MTV show *16 and Pregnant* during her pregnancy with Sophia, shared that she’s very proud of her daughter.
As someone who’s seen a lot of life, and especially when I think back to my own teenage years, I have to admit my parents, Debra Danielsen and Michael Abraham, weren’t really the people I turned to for advice. It’s a common thing, I think – sometimes you just need someone outside of family to talk to when you’re figuring things out.
She shared that she never had anyone guide her in making healthy life choices, and she had to figure things out on her own through numerous gynecological appointments. She’d dealt with health issues like cysts and even cervical cancer, facing a lot of challenges along the way.
She explained that, having often felt alone, she was determined to be a supportive presence in her daughter’s life.
I’ve been following Farrah’s story closely, and honestly, it makes perfect sense to me that she agreed to be part of A&E’s *Secrets of Celebrity Sex Tapes*. It seems like she really wanted to share her side of things, and the September 22nd episode will finally give her that platform.
Looking back, that time in 2013 was incredibly difficult. I was young and honestly, felt very alone. A big part of what made it so tough was a strained relationship with my mom – I really longed for the kind of support I wasn’t getting from her. It felt like a really vulnerable time, and I didn’t have a strong support system to lean on.
She acknowledged she was going through a difficult time when she started working in adult films. However, after addressing her own sexual trauma, Farrah realized what she wants to share with her daughter, Sophia.
She continues to go to therapy, explaining that she’s working on choosing better friends and surrounding her daughter with positive influences.
Now that my daughter is sixteen, I’m confident she’ll avoid anyone who might hurt her. She’s very aware of red flags and knows how to protect her career and future from negative influences.

Mackenzie and her boyfriend, Josh McKee, became parents to their son, Gannon, in 2011. Their experiences with young parenthood were featured on *Teen Mom 3*, and they got married in late 2013. They then welcomed their daughter, Jaxie Taylor, in February 2014. After years of training, Mackenzie competed in a bodybuilding competition in 2015, finishing second. She paused her competitions when their son, Broncs, was born in August 2016. Now, Mackenzie will be joining *Teen Mom: OG*, appearing in several episodes near the end of the current season.
Briana is one of the stars of *Teen Mom 3* and a mother to two daughters. After her first daughter, Nova Star DeJesus, was born in 2011, Briana underwent several cosmetic procedures. She’s faced criticism for saying she wouldn’t object to Nova getting plastic surgery when she’s older. Briana welcomed her second daughter, Stella Star DeJesus, in July 2017, with Luis Hernandez as the father. She ended her relationship with Javi Marroquin in January 2018 and celebrated a one-year anniversary with John Rodriguez in May 2019.
Leah was a central figure on *Teen Mom 2*, raising her twin daughters, Aliannah and Aleeah. Throughout the show, she faced challenges in her relationship with the girls’ father and her former husband, Corey. She later married Jeremy Calvert and they had a daughter, Adalynn Faith, in 2013. After divorcing in 2015, Leah is now raising her three children as a single mom.
Kailyn and her boyfriend Joe had a difficult relationship during their time on Teen Mom 2, eventually breaking up. She then began dating Javi Marroquin, and they had a son, Lincoln, in 2013, marrying the same year. Kailyn also has a son, Lux Russell, born in 2017 with Chris Lopez, with whom she currently shares a challenging co-parenting relationship. Kailyn is now single and hosting a podcast.
While appearing on *Teen Mom 2*, Chelsea faced difficulties balancing motherhood and her education, which led to the end of her relationship with Audree’s father, Adam. After earning her GED and becoming a trained beautician, she met her future husband, Cole, in 2014. They married in October 2016 and welcomed their first child, Watson, in January 2017. Their second child, Layne Ettie, was born in February 2019. More recently, Chelsea and Cole have been working together on a clothing line with Itzy Ritzy.
Viewers of *Teen Mom 2* will remember Jenelle as a young mother who often clashed with her own mother about her choices and how she raised her son, Jace. While she tried to improve her life, she experienced a difficult marriage and had an abortion in 2013. She then welcomed her second child, Kaiser, with Nathan Griffin in 2014. In January 2017, she had her daughter, Ensley, with David Eason, and the couple married in North Carolina later that year. Unfortunately, their happiness didn’t last. In February 2018, David was fired from *Teen Mom 2* due to offensive tweets. More recently, the family faced serious trouble when David reportedly shot and killed their dog. As a result of this incident, Jenelle has lost custody of all three of her children.
Catelynn and Tyler made the difficult decision to put their first child, Carly, up for adoption. Carly was adopted by Brandon and Theresa, who later became familiar faces on *Teen Mom 2*. Years later, in 2015, feeling more ready to raise a child, they welcomed their daughter Novalee and got married. Catelynn began seeking mental health support in November 2017, and after completing rehab, she shared on *Teen Mom OG* that she had experienced a miscarriage. Thankfully, in February 2019, they happily welcomed their third child, Vaeda Luma.
Maci first became well-known as the mother of Bentley, her son with her high school boyfriend, Ryan. She wanted to inspire other young mothers to pursue their dreams, so she joined *Teen Mom* to show them that having a child doesn’t have to derail their education or goals. After she and Ryan separated, Maci went to college to study journalism. She later married Taylor McKinney and together they have three children: Jayde, Maverick, and Madison. In addition to appearing on *Teen Mom OG*, Maci and Taylor also run a clothing line called Things That Matter.
Farrah’s time on *Teen Mom* was marked by tragedy, as her boyfriend died in an accident just before their daughter, Sophia, was born. She later shared her experiences in a book called *My Teenage Dream Ended* and gained notoriety after appearing in a sex tape with adult film star James Deen. In 2014, she starred in her own TV special, *Being Farrah*. However, she was let go from *Teen Mom OG* three years later, reportedly due to her work in the adult entertainment industry. Farrah then sued Viacom, MTV’s parent company, for $5 million, claiming they were shaming her career, but she later dropped the lawsuit after reaching a settlement. Since then, she’s continued to appear on reality television, including shows like *Ex on The Beach*, *Celebrity Big Brother*, and *Botched*.
Amber Portwood, mother to Leah Shirley, first gained public attention on the show *16 and Pregnant* in 2009. Her relationship with Leah’s father, Gary Shirley, was often troubled, and she faced accusations of domestic abuse. She also served 16 months in prison due to drug-related charges, and was released in November 2013. She later became a star on *Teen Mom OG*. A 2015 engagement to Matt Baier ended after rumors of infidelity. Amber found happiness again with cinematographer Andrew Glennon, and they welcomed their son, James, in May 2018. However, the couple split in 2019, and Amber was arrested and pleaded guilty to domestic violence following an incident with Andrew, receiving a probation sentence. In 2020, she introduced a new partner, Dimitri Garcia.
