Robin Wright thinks a sequel to The Princess Bride would be inconceivable.
Okay, so everyone *always* asks the cast of *The Princess Bride* – Cary Elwes, Mandy Patinkin, Billy Crystal, Chris Sarandon, and even Christopher Guest! – about doing another movie. It’s my biggest dream, obviously! But sadly, despite all the begging, it doesn’t look like they’re planning on revisiting that magical world anytime soon. They just don’t want to ‘storm the castle’ again, which honestly, breaks my heart! Rob Reiner’s movie is perfect, but a little more would be AMAZING.
In a recent interview with AARP, Robin mentioned that around the 30th anniversary of the show, the cast had a video call where some members discussed being asked about the possibility of making a sequel.
As the 59-year-old playfully pointed out, she had once joked to them, ‘Many of us will likely end up in wheelchairs.’ But she firmly believes that won’t be the case.
Despite being divorced, Robin remembers filming with fondness. She and her ex-husband, Sean Penn, share two children: Dylan Frances Penn, 34, and Hopper Jack Penn, 32.
She said making the movie was a lot of fun. They laughed so much that they often had to stop filming and start again.
And the bonding between the cast and crew off the set, too.
Usually, after filming a scene, actors finish up and return to their hotel rooms by themselves,” the former *House of Cards* star explained. “But this time, we completely took over the entire hotel.
Robin recalled fondly how she and several of her fellow actors – including Christopher’s wife, Jamie Lee Curtis – used to share potluck dinners together in the spacious kitchen.
Oh my gosh, she described it as just… going back to someone’s place with your friends after a show, you know? Just hanging out, jamming, sharing amazing food, and really *connecting* with each other. It wasn’t just a gig, it was about building a community, a feeling… it was everything!
Even though she had a wonderful experience filming *Forrest Gump*, the actress doesn’t want to make a sequel.
She told TopMob News in 2017 that someone briefly considered a revival, but she and the other cast members quickly shut down the idea. ‘We just didn’t want them to mess it up,’ she explained.
Director Rob shared that William Goldman, the writer of both the *Princess Bride* screenplay and the original novel, had previously tried and abandoned a sequel.
The filmmaker shared with CBR in July that he began writing a book titled *Buttercup’s Baby*, completing three chapters before deciding it wasn’t working and abandoning the project. He explained, ‘I don’t want to go there,’ indicating he didn’t want to pursue that story further.
Especially because, as Rob explained, The Princess Bride was “his favorite thing he ever wrote.”
Rob explained that he would never act without the other person’s approval. Therefore, he believed the matter should simply be dropped and left alone.
