Just call him Lord Henry Byron.
Henry Cavill shared a thoughtful update about a leg injury he suffered while preparing for his new movie, *Highlander*. He spoke about it in a poetic way.
On September 18th, the 42-year-old posted a photo to Instagram of himself with his dog, Baggins, and a picture of his injured left foot. He paired the images with a quote from the 1888 poem “Invictus” by William Ernest Henley.
Henry Cavill shared lines from a poem, writing, ‘From the darkest night surrounding me, I give thanks to any gods that exist for my resilient and unbreakable spirit.’
The phrase likely resonated with the actor, given its origin: William Ernest Henley wrote it while recovering from leg surgery. Henley himself faced significant health challenges, losing his left leg to tuberculosis as a child, but later finding a surgeon who successfully saved his other leg.
The poem ends with the famous line, “I am the master of my fate / I am the captain of my soul.”
Henry Cavill injured himself during training for the film *Highlander*, according to a report from Deadline on September 11th. The injury was serious enough to postpone filming, and it likely won’t resume until early next year.
The movie stars Russell Crowe, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, and Dave Bautista, and is a new version of the 1986 film *Highlander*, which originally featured Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery. It’s a fantasy story about immortal warriors from the Scottish Highlands who fight across the centuries.
Although the film wasn’t popular when it first came out in the 1980s, it’s since gained a dedicated following and become a cult favorite-a point Henry Cavill mentioned when talking about his part in the new version.
He stated at CinemaCon in 2024, according to The Hollywood Reporter, that he has a fondness for the classic films, acknowledging they aren’t perfect.
The actor, known for his role in *The Witcher* and who recently had a baby with his partner Natalie Viscuso, admitted he didn’t initially understand where the script, written by Michael Finch, was headed. However, once he discovered that Finch and director Chad Stahelski were truly exploring the characters’ struggles and motivations, he was excited to be involved.
“If you think you’ve seen me do sword work before,” he teased, “you haven’t seen anything yet.”
