Marvel Studios has announced a new cast for its upcoming Disney+ series, including replacements for Chris Hemsworth and six other popular MCU actors. While some familiar faces are being recast, don’t worry – a few of these actors have portrayed these characters in the MCU before.
The new four-episode animated series, *Marvel Zombies*, will start streaming on Disney+ on September 24th. Marvel has announced that six actors from previous Marvel Cinematic Universe projects will be providing voices for this series.
It’s common for Marvel animated shows to recast voice actors, as we saw with *What If…?* – the series *Marvel Zombies* is based on. That show brought in new actors like Mick Wingert as Tony Stark, Lake Bell as Natasha Romanoff, and Josh Keaton as Steve Rogers.
Despite this news, many fans are a little let down, especially since Paul Rudd, Tessa Thompson, and Wyatt Russell had already been set to return as their Marvel characters in the show.
Although Marvel has hinted at replacing actors in future projects, the recent casting announcement for *Marvel Zombies* isn’t very shocking, considering the show’s premise.
7 MCU Stars Recast In Marvel Zombies
Hudson Thames – Spider-Man
I’m really excited to hear that Hudson Thames is voicing Spider-Man in the Marvel Zombies animated series! It’s a bit different hearing someone new in the role, especially since I’m so used to Tom Holland as the live-action Spider-Man in the MCU, but I’m definitely curious to see what Hudson brings to the character.
Hudson Thames previously played Peter Parker in *What If…?* and is continuing that role in animation. Tom Holland hasn’t done any voice acting *specifically* for the character on Disney+.
Following some debate, Chris Pratt explained that his previous remarks about *Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse* (in which he also voices Peter Parker) being “woke” were misinterpreted.
Todd Williams – Blade
Todd Williams will now be voicing the character Blade. He’s taking over from Mahershala Ali, who was cast in the role for Marvel’s live-action movies, though we haven’t seen Ali as Blade on screen yet.
This marks Williams’ debut as the voice of Blade in animated projects. He’s previously gained recognition for his roles as Titan in *Invincible* and Rick Mason in the PlayStation 5 game *Spider-Man: Miles Morales*.
Kenna Ramsey – Okoye
Kenna Ramsey voices Zombie Okoye, stepping in for live-action MCU actress Danai Gurira.
Ramsey previously voiced Okoye in the animated series *What If…?*, following a pattern of using different voice actors for animated versions of characters instead of the original movie actors. This animated version of Okoye, depicted as a zombie, is expected to play a significant role, reporting directly to the Scarlet Witch.
Rama Vallury – Baron Zemo
Rama Vallury is now the voice of Baron Zemo, taking over the role from Daniel Brühl, who previously played the character in live-action movies and TV series.
In X-Men ’97, Vallury voiced another alternate take on Baron Zemo in Episode 8.
Greg Furman – Thor
Greg Furman now voices Thor in *Marvel Zombies*, stepping in for Chris Hemsworth, who is currently filming his ninth Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, *Avengers: Doomsday*.
This marks Furman’s debut as an animated character, following Hemsworth’s previous voice work for the same character in *What If…?*.
Kari Wahlgren – Melina Vostokoff
Kari Wahlgren returns as Melina Vostokoff in the animated series *Marvel Zombies*, picking up her role from Season 3 of *What If…?*. She takes over the character from Rachel Weisz, who played Melina in the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Actress Wahlgren brings experience to her role, having previously voiced Rose Gilberti in *X-Men ’97* and May Parker in *Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man*.
Feodor Chin – Wenwu
Feodor Chin returns as Xu Wenwu, continuing from his previous work voicing the character in Season 2 of *What If…?* and taking over the role from Tony Leung.
Although Tony Leung won’t be reprising his role as Wenwu, Simu Liu, who starred in *Shang-Chi*, will appear in *Marvel Zombies*. The trailer reveals he’ll be a key character, fighting to survive alongside Katy.
