As a lifelong Star Wars fan, I’m still buzzing about this! After 26 years, they’ve brought back a villain from *The Phantom Menace* for a new adventure. It just proves that no one truly stays gone in that galaxy far, far away. Lucasfilm has been amazing at bringing back familiar faces we thought we’d never see again. We’ve seen it happen a lot lately – like with Ahmed Best, who played Jar Jar Binks and recently returned after years. It’s awesome!
Sebulba, the memorable and ruthless podracer from *The Phantom Menace*, is making a comeback! He was introduced as Anakin Skywalker’s competitor in the Boonta Eve Classic and hasn’t been seen since. After years of absence, it’s now confirmed that this prequel villain will return to the Star Wars universe.
Fans finally have new information about Sebulba’s long-awaited return to the Star Wars franchise.
Fans already knew the character would return in the new VR game, *Star Wars: Beyond Victory*, but StarWars.com just announced that Lewis MacLeod, the original voice of the character, is back to play the role again.
MacLeod has voiced Sebulba ever since his debut in *The Phantom Menace*, but hasn’t played the character in any official Star Wars content since 1999.
Over the years, this British voice actor has also contributed to several Star Wars video games, such as *Star Wars: Obi-Wan*, *Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds*, and *Star Wars Outlaws*.
Star Wars: Beyond Victory is a new mixed reality game designed for the Meta Quest 3 and 3S headsets. Players become Volo Bolus, a young podracer caught up in an original Star Wars story that takes place during the time of the Empire.
James McAvoy isn’t the only big name in *Star Wars: Beyond Victory*. The game also features Bobby Moynihan, Fin Argus, and Lilimar Hernandez. *Star Wars: Beyond Victory* will be available on Meta Quest starting Tuesday, October 7th.
What Is Next For Sebulba in Star Wars?
Many fans of the Star Wars prequels will be thrilled to see Sebulba back in the spotlight. The famously rude podracer hasn’t made a significant appearance since his first role in *The Phantom Menace*.
The character has made brief appearances in games like *LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga*, but hasn’t had a significant role in the official *Star Wars* story until the release of the upcoming *Star Wars: Beyond Victory*.
Several characters introduced in *The Phantom Menace* have gone on to have successful careers in the Star Wars universe. For example, even though Darth Maul died at the end of the film, he’s been brought back to life multiple times and will even star in his own Disney+ show in 2026.
Although some Star Wars fans who love Sebulba might enjoy seeing his podracer destroyed in future stories, that probably won’t happen.
It’s likely Sebulba will reappear in the upcoming *Beyond Victory* expansion, but this time as a helpful guide instead of an enemy, before being retired again.
Currently, there aren’t any plans for a major story involving Sebulba in the Star Wars universe, likely because the franchise is focusing on events that happen further along in the timeline, after his time.
For now, fans will have to appreciate what they have with the prequel trilogy’s villain and look forward to seeing more of him in the upcoming release, *Star Wars: Beyond Victory*, this fall.
