Starting in the early 2000s, Jason Statham became a major action star, and he’s remained one of Hollywood’s most recognizable faces in the genre ever since. He’s led many blockbuster films, including popular titles like *The Expendables*, *The Fate of the Furious*, *Safe*, and *The Meg*. His newest action movie, *A Working Man*, is coming out in 2025. But fans shouldn’t miss his 2006 film, a particularly wild and exciting ride that’s now available to stream again.
The action movie *Crank*, and its sequel *Crank 2: High Voltage*, became available on Tubi, Fox’s free streaming service, starting September 1st. Jason Statham plays Chev Chelios, a hitman who discovers he’s been poisoned with a substance that will stop his heart if he doesn’t keep his adrenaline pumping. He has to maintain a high heart rate to stay alive long enough to get revenge on those who poisoned him. The film also stars Amy Smart, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Efren Ramirez, and Dwight Yoakam.
Why You Should Watch Crank
Even after almost twenty years, *Crank* is still one of Jason Statham’s most memorable action films. Unlike typical thrillers, the movie has a completely over-the-top plot and showcases a really energetic and funny performance from Statham as Chev. He’s forced to perform a series of strange and risky stunts – even shocking himself with a defibrillator – just to stay alive! *Crank* is a non-stop, chaotic ride, and while its fast pace and unusual style might not appeal to everyone, it’s incredibly entertaining thanks to Chev’s constant need for adrenaline, and the way it mixes intense action with dark humor.
The action movie *Crank* was a financial success, earning $42 million globally on a $12 million budget. Critics and audiences generally liked it too, giving it a 62% and 71% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, respectively. This positive reception led to a sequel, *Crank 2: High Voltage*, which once again starred Jason Statham as Chev. In this installment, Chev has an artificial heart that needs constant electrical shocks to keep working. *Crank 2* received slightly better reviews from critics (64%) and is now available to stream on Tubi.
Other Action Movies Now On Tubi
If you’re an action movie fan, Tubi has you covered this September! On September 1st, the streaming service added a bunch of exciting titles, including *Need For Speed*, *The Flash*, *Universal Soldier: The Return*, and *XXX: State of the Union*. Plus, Tubi added *World War Z* on the 1st, just as news broke about a sequel being developed.
