With *Battlefield 6* releasing soon and already racking up over a million pre-orders, early reactions have been good across all platforms, particularly after the public beta. Given how many recent big games have launched with performance issues, the game’s smooth performance is a welcome surprise.
According to Ripple Effect’s technical director, Christian Buhl, the team didn’t create this game as a port of a PC version. He explained that past *Battlefield* games were typically built for PC and then adapted for consoles. However, with this project, they intentionally decided from the start to develop it simultaneously for all platforms. This involved making specific choices to ensure a unified development process.
When developing *Battlefield 6*, the team set up extensive testing environments on all consoles. To ensure everyone understood the player experience, they also equipped all developers with controllers, both at home and in the office. While it was easier for the team to test on PCs during development, they prioritized testing with controllers to accurately reflect how players would experience the game.
If you’re playing on PlayStation 5 and didn’t get a chance to try the beta, you’ll be happy to know the DualSense controller is fully supported. This includes immersive features like adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, as well as the controller’s speaker, which will alert you to things like incoming missiles and communication from teammates. You can disable these features if you prefer.
Battlefield 6 comes out on October 10th for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. You can find more information about how the game will perform on consoles – including frame rates and resolutions – and how crossplay works by clicking here. While developing for the Xbox Series S presented some difficulties, it ultimately helped the developers optimize the game for all platforms.
