TT Games is committed to making *LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight* the ultimate Batman story, even though it’s a self-contained adventure. A recent behind-the-scenes video features DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn, DC president Jim Lee, and TT Games strategic director Johnathan Smith discussing how they’re using Batman’s rich history as inspiration.
According to Smith, the aim is to capture the essence of Batman’s rich history – decades of compelling stories – to fully immerse players in the role of the Dark Knight. Because Batman’s character has changed so much over the years, the creators did extensive research, drawing inspiration from sources like *The Batman*, Christopher Nolan’s *The Dark Knight* trilogy, the animated series, and even the classic Adam West *Batman* show.
According to Gunn, a highlight of *LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight* is how it brings together all the different aspects of Batman that fans have enjoyed throughout the years, offering a truly complete portrayal of the character.
Okay, so the story starts like you’d expect – young Bruce Wayne going to the movies with his parents, and then, well, you know the deal. After that, he gets trained by the League of Shadows and eventually comes back to Gotham. But this time, it’s different. Instead of going it alone, he builds up a whole team of heroes to fight alongside him. That means you don’t just play as Batman – you get to control seven different characters, including Commissioner Gordon, which is pretty awesome!
The new LEGO Batman game, *LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight*, will be released in 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. You can find a longer look at gameplay footage here.
