1 Weird Peacemaker Moment Was A Way Deeper DC Comics Cut Than it Seemed

A strange scene in season 2 of *Peacemaker* might actually be a clever reference to a lesser-known DC Comics story, and a significant hint about James Gunn’s plans for the new DC Universe. While introducing several interesting and powerful characters, *Peacemaker* season 2 has only hinted at their full potential. Episode 4, “Need I Say Door,” showcased a particularly impressive power within the DCU, and a new fan theory suggests it could play a crucial role in future storylines.

In the final moments of the “Need I Say Door” episode, eagle hunter Red St. Wild (Michael Rooker) used a ritual to connect with mystical forces, allowing him to find Peacemaker’s eagle, Eagly. This revealed that Rooker’s character isn’t just a hunter, but a Metahuman with special abilities. A popular theory on Reddit proposes that Red St. Wild’s powers might be linked to a character known as the Red. If the Red is introduced into the DC Universe, it could significantly impact many well-known DC Comics heroes.

The Red, a powerful force first appearing in DC Comics in 1988’s *Animal Man #1*, links all life on Earth – both animals and plants. Many animal-based heroes and villains in DC Comics get their abilities by connecting with this force. Characters like Animal Girl, Vixen, Beast Boy, and Cheetah all draw power from the Red. In the DC Universe, Red St. Wild, with his strong connection to eagles, might also be linked to it.

In the fifth episode of *Peacemaker* season 2, titled “Back to the Suture,” Red St. Wild followed Eagly to Peacemaker’s (John Cena) secluded cabin. There, Eagly shockingly revealed himself to be the Prime Eagle. He then turned on his fellow winged creatures, leading to Red St. Wild’s violent and ironic death, leaving it uncertain if he ever connected with the Red. However, the Red’s power could potentially be used by other animal-based heroes within the DC Universe going forward.

Several characters – including Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Weasel (Sean Gunn), Krypto the Superdog, Blue Beetle (Xolo Maridueña), and Gorilla Grodd, along with others from Belle Reve – might be connected to a powerful force called the Red. This Red force, and other similar energies like the Green (linked to Swamp Thing), the Black, and the White, could become very important in the future of the DC Universe. This makes the death of Red St. Wild in *Peacemaker* season 2 potentially more significant, and actor Michael Rooker has hinted he might return in a larger capacity later on.
