Prince Harry and Meghan Markle face relentless media attention, with frequent negative reports about their lives – everything from issues with their team to speculation about disagreements with Netflix. Many stories portray Harry as unhappy and even miserable, but he’s now publicly pushing back against that image.
Prince Harry, the younger son of King Charles III, recently had a packed week that included a trip to Ukraine and a reported meeting with his father for the first time since February. In an interview with The Guardian, Prince Harry affirmed his continued love for the UK, despite how he may have appeared in some photographs.
I’ve noticed some reports in the media suggesting I’m unhappy or not enjoying myself, but that’s just speculation. These claims come from people who are guessing at my thoughts and feelings, and they’re simply incorrect.
Prince Harry has a well-known and difficult history with British tabloid newspapers, including legal battles with the Daily Mirror. He’s currently involved in another lawsuit, alongside Elton John and others, against the company that publishes the Daily Mail, with the trial scheduled to start in January 2026.
He continued his thoughts about how the media sees him, saying:
Some of the British media seem determined to portray me as unhappy, but that’s simply not true. I’m content with myself and enjoy my life.
For the past five years, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been a source of much discussion and debate, ever since they left their roles as senior members of the royal family and moved to the United States. Things became even more strained after their revealing interview with Oprah Winfrey, and later with the claims made in Harry’s autobiography, *Spare*, and their Netflix documentary series, *Harry & Meghan*.
Prince Harry acknowledged he’s likely appeared unhappy at times, explaining this is due to the pressures his family has faced, including the fallout from legal battles and the online negativity directed at Meghan Markle.
He believes the media doesn’t accurately represent him, and that differs from how the public actually views him. Despite feeling unfairly targeted by some British newspapers, he’s confident that people are capable of forming their own opinions.
While the Duke’s memoir may have strained his relationship with his father and brother – William and Harry are still not close despite attempts to mend things – he doesn’t regret publishing *Spare*. He believes it was important to set the record straight and address inaccurate stories that had already been circulating.
It remains to be seen if Prince Harry will repair his relationships with his family. Until then, we shouldn’t be quick to assume anything negative if we see photos of him looking unhappy.
