Sarah Michelle Gellar explained that the upcoming *Buffy the Vampire Slayer* on Hulu will continue the original story, rather than being a complete restart.
Why isn’t the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Hulu show a reboot?
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Gellar clarified that the new Buffy project isn’t a reboot, but something different.
Gellar emphasized that the new project isn’t a restart of the original series, but rather a continuation of the ‘Buffy’ universe. She explained it will pick up the story 25 years later, building on the established world fans already know.
Hulu ordered a pilot for a new series continuing the story of *Buffy the Vampire Slayer*. Sarah Michelle Gellar is set to reprise her famous role as Buffy Summers, though she will appear as a recurring character. The new series will star Ryan Kiera Armstrong as Nova, a shy high schooler who is the next in line to become a vampire slayer.
Sarah Michelle Gellar, who is producing the new Buffyverse series, announced that they’ve already filmed the pilot episode. She emphasized that the show is being made with the fans in mind.
Honestly, it’s hard to even begin to describe what we’ve just filmed. It was a total rollercoaster – exhilarating and stressful all at once! I know fans have been wanting this for years, and everyone has a very specific idea of what it *should* be. I really made this for them, and I’m hoping they connect with it. But knowing this fanbase, I’m sure they’ll have plenty to say, and that’s okay! We poured so much love, passion, and careful thought into every single detail.
The supporting cast includes Faly Rakotohavana, Ava Jean, Sarah Bock, Daniel Di Tomasso, Jack Cutmore-Scott, Merrin Dungey, Audrey Hsieh, Audrey Grace Marshall, and Chase Sui Wonders.
Nora and Lila Zuckerman are the showrunners, writers, and executive producers of the new *Buffy the Vampire Slayer* series. Chloé Zhao directed the first episode and is also an executive producer. Currently, Hulu hasn’t announced when the show will premiere.
