The Day of the Jackal season 2 sees major change as key figure exits

Okay, so I just heard some interesting news about ‘The Day of the Jackal’! Apparently, there’s a big shake-up happening behind the scenes as they get ready to shoot the second season. Sounds like things are changing up before they start filming, which is always a little nerve-wracking, but hopefully it’ll be for the best!

Eddie Redmayne stars in this new, visually stunning series based on Frederick Forsyth’s popular novel, which was originally made into a film in 1973.

Eddie Redmayne plays the lead role of The Jackal, a dangerous and heartless assassin who was pursued around the globe in the first season by MI6 agent Bianca Pullman, portrayed by Lashana Lynch (known for her roles in Marvel and James Bond films).

The first season featured a mostly new storyline centered around a mysterious villain, and explored his more vulnerable side through relationships with a love interest, Nuria (played by Úrsula Corberó from Money Heist), and his son.

However, the show will continue with new writers, as creator Ronan Bennett is moving on to other projects. These could include a second season of Mobland or a Channel 4 drama called Army of Shadows, according to Variety.

Fortunately, a high-profile replacement has been lined up for season 2.

David Harrower, a playwright and screenwriter, received praise earlier this year for his miniseries *Lockerbie: A Search for Truth*, starring Colin Firth. It was shown on Sky Atlantic and NOW.

He’s now in charge of planning future episodes of The Jackal. Producer Gareth Neame has suggested these episodes might more closely tie into the original story that inspired the show.

In a recent Variety interview, he admitted the first season didn’t use many details from the original book, and he’s excited to incorporate those into a future season, which he envisions as another visually stunning and suspenseful thriller.

The first season concluded with several mysteries still unanswered and a key character apparently killed off, following the collapse of the complex double life that Redmayne’s character, Jackal, had created.

I’m really excited to see the cast of ‘The Day of the Jackal’ – it’s packed with incredible talent! You’ve got Chukwudi Iwuji, who I loved in ‘Guardians Vol. 3’, alongside Lia Williams, so brilliant in ‘Mr Bates vs The Post Office’. And it doesn’t stop there – Eleanor Matsuura from ‘The Walking Dead’, Nick Blood of ‘Slow Horses’, and the legendary Charles Dance from ‘Game of Thrones’ are all part of it. What a lineup!

The Day of the Jackal season 2 is coming soon to Sky and NOW.
