The MCU’s Next Disney+ Show Gets Record-Breaking Runtime

Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ show, *Marvel Zombies*, will have a surprisingly short runtime, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Lately, viewers have been closely watching how long streaming shows like those from Marvel, DC, and Star Wars are, often prioritizing length over story quality. While Disney+ recently delivered a longer-than-expected *Daredevil: Born Again*, the brief *Eyes of Wakanda* (just over 2 hours) left some wanting more. *Marvel Zombies* appears to be following the shorter route, which might frustrate some, but isn’t automatically a sign of lower quality.

With the next big Marvel team-up movie, *Avengers: Doomsday*, just over a year away, the zombie-filled universe of *Marvel Zombies* is returning to the alternate Earth it first appeared on in the 2021 *What If…?* series. A spin-off was announced that same year, drawing inspiration from the *Marvel Zombies* comic books by Robert Kirkman. Details are still scarce, but the four-episode series, rated for mature audiences, will feature many recognizable characters battling a zombie version of a former superhero.

Each episode of Disney+’s *Marvel Zombies* will be around 30 minutes long. With its animation style and only four episodes, this new series is shaping up to be the shortest Marvel Studios season on Disney+-excluding the *I Am Groot* shorts, which are much shorter in length and aren’t considered full episodes.

The four episodes, each between 29 and 35 minutes long including the credits, add up to a total runtime of about 125 minutes – just over two hours – which is similar to the length of a typical Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.

  • Episode 1 – 35 minutes
  • Episode 2 – 31 minutes
  • Episode 3 – 30 minutes
  • Episode 4 – 29 minutes

Like *Marvel Zombies*, the new Disney+ series *Eyes of Wakanda* also proved quite short, clocking in at just 125 minutes total across its four episodes when it first launched in August.

Currently, the longest series on Disney+ from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is *Daredevil: Born Again*. It has a total runtime of 454 minutes – that’s 7 hours and 34 minutes – spread across its nine episodes.

I recently learned something really interesting about how this animated project came to be! Apparently, the director, Bryan Andrews, and the team initially planned it as a full-length movie. But then, some unexpected problems came up, and they decided it worked better as a TV series instead. It makes a lot of sense why it feels so epic now that I know they were aiming for that movie scale!

The full runtimes for every MCU Disney+ show, including credits, are below:

  • WandaVision – 363 minutes (6 hours, 3 minutes)
  • The Falcon and the Winter Soldier – 330 minutes (5 hours, 30 minutes)
  • Loki – 302 minutes (5 hours, 2 minutes)
  • What If…? Season 1 – 322 minutes (5 hours, 22 minutes)
  • Hawkeye – 297 minutes (4 hours, 57 minutes)
  • Moon Knight – 303 minutes (5 hours, 3 minutes)
  • Ms. Marvel – 289 minutes (4 hours, 49 minutes)
  • She-Hulk: Attorney at Law – 309 minutes (5 hours, 9 minutes)
  • Secret Invasion – 272 minutes (4 hours, 32 minutes)
  • Loki Season 2 – 313 minutes (5 hours, 13 minutes)
  • What If…? Season 2 – 292 minutes (4 hours, 52 minutes)
  • Echo – 215 minutes (3 hours, 35 minutes)
  • X-Men ’97 – 344 minutes (5 hours, 44 minutes)
  • Agatha All Along – 379 minutes (6 hours, 19 minutes)
  • What If…? Season 3 – 254 minutes (4 hours, 14 minutes)
  • Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man – 317 minutes (5 hours, 17 minutes)
  • Daredevil: Born Again – 454 minutes (7 hours, 34 minutes)
  • Eyes of Wakanda – 125 minutes (2 hours, 5 minutes)

I’m hearing that even though I was excited for the new Marvel show, *Wonder Man*, we might need to be a little patient. It’s set to come out in December, but it sounds like it will only have eight episodes, and each one is just about 30 minutes long. So, it might not be the epic we were hoping for right away.

Though the new *Daredevil: Born Again* season will be released in shorter installments on Disney+, episodes are expected to be around an hour long when it returns next year. Details about the episode length for *Vision Quest* haven’t been revealed yet.

Fans Shouldn’t Worry About Marvel Zombies’ Runtime

Some fans might be disappointed that *Marvel Zombies* is only a little over two hours long, especially since its interesting setting and characters could have been explored in a longer film. However, because the story appears to be structured like a movie divided into four parts, it might not feel too short overall.

The creators of *Marvel Zombies* may have originally planned it as a film, but Spider-Man’s scheduled return in a 2025 movie likely changed those plans. Marvel Studios currently seems limited to using Spider-Man in animated series, which probably led to the *Marvel Zombies* story being divided into four separate parts.

The new series is being called a “four-episode mini-event,” but it’s unknown if *Marvel Zombies* is intended as a single, complete story or if Marvel plans to continue it with more seasons set in this zombie-filled world. Whether or not the show gets renewed for a second season will likely depend on how well it’s received by audiences and how many people watch it.

Despite this, many fans will likely be frustrated with the runtime of *Marvel Zombies*, which is a little over two hours long. This is especially true considering *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* received criticism for being almost as long when it was released in theaters.
