The Voice Coaches Shocked by Contestant’s Audition Marriage Proposal

Wedding bells are ringing on The Voice.

Jacob Ryan Gustafson, a contestant on Season 28 of the singing competition, surprised the coaches – Reba McEntire, Snoop Dogg, Michael Bublé, and Niall Horan – on September 23rd, but not with his singing.

Before his audition on The Voice, the firefighter from Yucaipa, California, lovingly dedicated his song to his girlfriend, Jenn.

Jacob said he was planning to sing ‘Spin You Around’ by Morgan Wallen. He explained that the song reminds him of dancing with Jenn all night, and that’s how he envisions their future together.

The singer, age 35, performed a country song, but none of the four judges turned around, so he wasn’t selected to continue in the competition.

Rather than dwell on his disappointment, Jacob used his brief moment in the spotlight to create a turning point in his life.

He thanked the coaches for the opportunity and then asked if he could introduce someone special, explaining, “She’s the reason I’m able to be here today.”

When Jenn came onstage, Jacob turned to her and said, “My life is amazing, and I feel so lucky. If I could change one thing about this moment, it would be to have your last name.”

Jacob knelt and proposed, asking, “Will you marry me?” The crowd and coaches immediately burst into cheers and applause.

The coaches immediately went on stage to congratulate the couple, who both have three children from previous relationships. Michael playfully joked, “So, you won *The Voice*!”

Sitting in confession, Michael thought about a touching moment on *The Voice*. He recalled Jacob teaching everyone that there are no real losers on the show. Even though none of the judges turned their chairs, Jacob received the most important affirmation – a ‘yes’ from the person he cared about most.

Before proposing, Jenn explained their close connection in a video played before the proposal.

She said she admires his choice of career, but worries constantly about his safety. It’s incredibly hard not knowing if he’ll return home each night. What she loves most is that his children have a hero to look up to, though she wishes he didn’t face life-or-death situations every day.

While reflecting in confession, Michael thought about a touching moment with Jacob on *The Voice*. Even though none of the judges turned their chairs, Jacob received a ‘yes’ from the person he valued most, reminding everyone that there are no real losers on the show. It was a truly beautiful moment.

Before proposing, Jenn explained what made their relationship so special in a video played before the moment.

She admires his career choice, but worries about his safety every day as a firefighter. It’s wonderful that he’s a role model for his children, but incredibly stressful knowing he risks his life daily. If she could change one thing, it would be to remove that danger, allowing her children to simply be proud of his work without fear.

And Jacob couldn’t be more grateful for Jenn’s support.

He confessed it had taken him two decades to find the courage to pursue this. He explained he wanted to prove to Jenn that her faith in him had given him self-belief.
