Movie fans were recently surprised by a new Liam Neeson film, *Ice Road: Vengeance*, which unexpectedly appeared on Netflix. The movie quickly became incredibly popular, reaching the top of the streaming charts. Although its dominance on Netflix has lessened slightly, the sequel to 2021’s *The Ice Road* is proving to be a big hit overall, thanks to strong performance on another streaming service.
Ice Road: Vengeance is also a big success on Prime Video, currently ranking as the most-streamed movie on the platform – even beating out Madame Web. Interestingly, while the film is performing well worldwide, viewers in the US need to rent or buy it. Considering its performance on both Netflix and Prime Video, Ice Road: Vengeance is proving to be a global hit, and a film people are intentionally choosing to watch.
Ice Road: Vengeance’s Success Proves Poor Reviews Don’t Always Mean Poor Performance

Despite receiving poor reviews from critics – currently at only 14% on Rotten Tomatoes – *Ice Road: Vengeance* has become a surprising hit with audiences. While viewer scores aren’t high, they haven’t stopped people from watching the sequel, which follows Liam Neeson as he travels to Mount Everest to honor his brother and ends up battling mercenaries. As of Tuesday, the film is still a top three hit on Netflix worldwide, proving that critical reception doesn’t always reflect how a movie will perform with viewers.
The surprising popularity of *Ice Road: Vengeance*, despite negative reviews, could be linked to the success of another Liam Neeson film, *The Naked Gun*. That movie was a big hit with audiences and critics alike, earning $102 million worldwide on a $42 million budget, and was praised for its humor and nostalgic appeal. Its success has even sparked talk of a sequel. Because *The Naked Gun* did so well, people may be more inclined to watch other Neeson films, including action thrillers like *Ice Road: Vengeance*.
