Taylor Swift wins 5-year restraining order against her alleged stalker

Taylor Swift has been granted a five-year restraining order against an alleged stalker.

The singer, age 35, received a court order on Monday, according to documents obtained by The Times. She first submitted a statement to the Los Angeles County Superior Court on June 6th, and a temporary order was granted on June 9th.

According to reports from the Cut, Brian Jason Wagner is accused of trying to break into a woman’s Los Angeles home three times in July 2024. During one attempt, he supposedly had a glass bottle that could have been used as a weapon.

He reportedly told Taylor Swift several false and delusional things, claiming he lived on her property, that they were in a relationship, and even that she was the mother of his child.

The documents also state that Wagner visited her home on May 21st and 22nd, saying he was just making sure a friend was okay.

Taylor Swift’s security team discovered that a man who had been bothering her had a criminal record and had previously been to prison. While incarcerated, he wrote Swift numerous letters expressing an obsession with her and falsely claiming they were in a romantic relationship.

He’s also accused of trying to have her mail forwarded and managed to change the address on his driver’s license to her address with the DMV. According to USA Today, a member of Taylor Swift’s security team, Alex Welch, discovered this when the updated driver’s license was delivered to Swift’s home.

A court order issued on Monday prohibits Wagner from contacting Taylor Swift or going near her home, car, or work. He is also barred from possessing guns or body armor.

Court documents say that Wagner is from Colorado and did not appear at Monday’s hearing.

Taylor Swift has previously needed to get restraining orders. Back in 2014, she obtained a court order to protect herself and her family from a man who had reportedly been making threats.
