Major Hollywood franchises are almost always in competition with each other. The rivalry between *Star Trek* and *Star Wars* has been going on since the 1970s, and it’s become even more heated with the rise of streaming. The same is true for DC and Marvel, but Marvel is currently much more successful. Marvel Studios has turned characters like Captain America and Iron Man into guaranteed billion-dollar successes, while Warner Bros. Discovery is only recently starting to build a comparable franchise with the right leadership in place.
James Gunn is now leading the creative direction at DC Studios. Instead of simply copying what he did with Marvel, he’s taking a more measured approach to developing his characters. Interestingly, DC recently confirmed that a well-known hero from Marvel will officially be part of the new DC Universe, showing a nod to his roots.
Peacemaker Season 2 Shows Some Love to a Popular Marvel Hero

Similar to Marvel, the new DC Universe is exploring alternate realities. In the show *Peacemaker*, Christopher Smith feels stuck because of his past mistakes and feels like no one will give him a break. When he gets the chance to switch places with his counterpart in another universe, he jumps at it, thinking it will improve his life and help his friends. However, Leota Adebayo, Emilia Harcourt, and the rest of his team don’t want him to go, so they devise a plan to bring him back. They use Adrian Chase’s house as headquarters and work to reactivate the machine that allows travel between universes.
Following a quick chat with Adrian about the hidden items in his basement, the team got back to work. They easily found the right door, but were surprised by how comfortably Chris was living. They didn’t have much time to look around, however, as Keith Smith showed up and offered Harcourt a ride to A.R.G.U.S. Adrian, eager to pursue his own task, also left to find his alternate self. He quickly completed his mission, and the meeting of the two Vigilantes was comical – they both pointed at each other, referencing the famous Spider-Man meme. While it’s reassuring to know some things remain consistent across different universes, the moment in *Peacemaker* Season 2 likely isn’t hinting at a larger storyline.
Don’t Expect a Marvel/DC Crossover Anytime Soon

Ever since James Gunn started leading the DC Universe, he’s been flooded with questions about everything from Batman’s future to when the Justice League will assemble. He’s always happy to discuss possibilities, even the idea of a DC-Marvel crossover. While Gunn sees the potential in such an event, he doubts fans truly want it. He believes the priority should be strong, well-told stories, and his work so far reflects that commitment.
Things could certainly change down the road. The DC Universe might one day find itself in a similar spot to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, really needing a success. But that’s a future concern. For now, the best James Gunn and his team can do is acknowledge the work of their rivals, and they’ve done so nicely by playfully referencing how wild the concept of the multiverse actually is.
Peacemaker Season 2 is streaming on HBO Max.
