Beware! This article reveals details from the first episode of *The Amazing Race* Season 38, titled “Two Worlds Colliding.” If you haven’t watched it yet, and want to avoid spoilers, we recommend subscribing to Paramount+ and streaming the episode before reading on!
I was excited to watch the premiere of *The Amazing Race* Season 38, especially since I’ve been following *Big Brother* online recently and loved seeing former players and their families compete. However, I think one moment in the episode was unfair and needs to be addressed.
Phil Keoghan is great at hearing what fans suggest, even if some ideas aren’t perfect. I think it would be helpful if the show did a bit more research on the businesses they use for challenges. I noticed this after watching the first episode, where teams seemed to face a surprise extra task during the flower challenge that changed how the game played out.
The Flower Challenge Was Much Easier For The Bains And Des Lauriers Teams Than Everyone Else
Jag and Jas Bains, widely considered the frontrunners, and Tucker and Eric Des Lauriers were the first two teams to arrive at the flower-picking challenge, giving them a head start. They teamed up to complete it quickly, and successfully finished in a good amount of time.
This challenge proved to be surprisingly difficult. What first appeared to be a simple flower-matching task quickly became complex, as many of the flowers looked almost identical, requiring a very close look to tell them apart. This detail became crucial when Rubina Bernabe and her sister Kristine arrived, right as the retractable roof closed, blocking out the sunlight.

It Was Completely Unfair To Make Many Of The Teams Complete The Challenge In Darkness
Team Bernabe had a lucky break – Kristine is a florist based in Los Angeles. They managed to finish the challenge quickly, even in the dark, but many other teams struggled. It was already difficult to tell the flowers apart, and doing it in the dark made the task take much longer.
I was really surprised during a recent interview when someone asked Phil Keoghan who his dream teammate would be for *The Amazing Race*. I honestly didn’t anticipate such a genuinely moving and personal response – it was far more heartfelt than I expected!
The challenge proved particularly difficult for Kat Dunn and Matt Turner, both of whom became visibly frustrated. Kat even cried while trying to figure out the solution, and Matt seemed on the verge of quitting. Thankfully, they both managed to overcome the obstacle and continue competing on *The Amazing Race* for at least one more leg of the race.
Enzo Palumbo and his brother Jack weren’t as fortunate as some of the other racers. They had a tough time with the flower challenge, but their biggest problem was a bike that forced one of them to ride wearing a large clog. They weren’t saved by a non-elimination leg on *The Amazing Race* and were the first team eliminated from Season 38. It’s possible they could have avoided elimination if they’d had better lighting for the challenge.

I’m really enjoying Paramount Plus! You can get a subscription for as little as $7.99 a month, or save even more with an annual plan at $59.99 a year. I’m currently watching the latest season of *The Amazing Race* on there. They have a couple of plans – the Essential one is great, and if you want to skip the ads and get access to even more shows and movies, the Premium plan is $12.99 a month. Honestly, the best deal is paying for a year upfront – you get twelve months for the price of ten! I’ve included a link if you want to check it out.
New episodes of *The Amazing Race* are on CBS Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. Eastern Time. As the fall TV season begins, you can find out about all the new and returning shows on the 2025 TV schedule.
