Major Video Game Anime Adaptation Shares Big Update

Video games and anime are a natural fit, often inspiring adaptations in each other’s mediums. Many popular game series like *Pokemon*, *Persona*, and *Castlevania* have been turned into anime, and conversely, huge anime franchises such as *One Piece*, *Dragon Ball*, *My Hero Academia*, and *Jujutsu Kaisen* have become video games. Recently, a very successful role-playing game franchise revealed a first look at its new anime adaptation, including the voice cast.

As a huge fan, I was so excited to hear about the *Suikoden* anime, which is coming in 2026! It seems like they’re adapting the story from *Suikoden II*, which is fantastic. The anime will center around the relationship between Riliu and Jowy, two lifelong friends torn apart by a massive war. They’ve released some beautiful new artwork giving us a peek at what’s in store, and even better, they’ve announced the voice actors for all the characters, along with some really cool insights from the actors themselves about bringing their roles to life. Toshiki Kumagai as Riliu

Introducing Riryu from the anime ‘#Suikoden’! Voiced by Toshihiro Kumagai (#KumagaiToshihiro). Riryu is a young soldier belonging to the Unicorn Squad, a local unit in the town of Caro in the Highland Kingdom.

Toshiki Kumagai, known for his work on *The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel – Northern War*, expressed his excitement about joining the cast. He said he’s deeply honored to be part of a series with such a beloved and long-standing history. Kumagai described his character, Riliu, as endearing, kind-hearted, and possessing a strong inner strength, and promised to portray him with dedication. He also shared his anticipation for seeing the world of *Suikoden II* brought to life in the anime adaptation.

Shinba Tsuchiya as Jowy

The anime adaptation of ‘#Genso Suikoden’ features Joui, voiced by Kamiya Tsuchiya. Joui is a childhood friend of Riryu and a member of the Unicorn Squad. Raised in the esteemed Atreides family of Caro in the Highland Kingdom, he has been bound by the weight of his family name since childhood.

Shinba, a voice actor known for his work in popular series like *Gundam*, *Pokemon*, *Bleach: Burn The Witch*, and *Haikyu*, recently shared his excitement about joining the *Suikoden* anime. He said he was thrilled to be cast and feels honored to be part of a show so many people love. He’s committed to bringing his character, Jowy – a kind and sincere individual – to life with careful attention and passion.

Ayumi Hinohara as Nanami

The anime ‘#Genso Suikoden’ features Nanami, voiced by Ayumi Hinohara. Nanami was raised by Genkaku and is like an older sister to Riryu. She’s cheerful and always smiling, but can be a bit overprotective at times.

Ayumi Hinohara, who voices a main character in *Uma Musume: Pretty Derby*, expressed her excitement about joining the cast of the *Genso Suikoden* anime. She shared that she’s a long-time fan of the series and was deeply moved by its themes of human connection and the importance of protecting what you cherish, even during times of conflict. Hinohara particularly connected with the character of Nanami, describing her as a strong and family-oriented girl, and is dedicated to bringing Nanami to life in a way that will resonate with viewers. She hopes the anime will reach a wide audience.

Katsuyuki Konishi as Viktor

The anime ‘#Suikoden’ features Victor, voiced by Kiyonobu Koichi. Victor is a cheerful and boisterous mercenary from the Jowston City Alliance, known as ‘Victor the Wanderer’.

Katsuyuki Konishi, a well-known voice actor (known for roles in *Demon Slayer*, *Gachiakuta*, and *Bleach*), voices the powerful character Viktor in the new anime. He shared how excited he was to join the cast, especially because he was a big fan of the original *Genso Suikoden* game as a child. He often wondered why it hadn’t been adapted into an anime sooner. Konishi expressed his gratitude for being involved through his work on *Genso Suikoden* audio dramas and said he’s really looking forward to the anime’s release. He encourages anyone who hasn’t played the game to give it a try, promising they’ll love it!

Yuichi Nakamura as Flick

Introducing Flick from the anime ‘#Suikoden’! Voiced by Yuichi Nakamura (@nakamuraFF11), Flick is a swordsman known for his blue cloak and piercing gaze. He’s often called ‘Flick, the Blue Lightning’.

It’s funny that Yuichi Nakamura is playing Flick again! He actually voiced the character in a drama CD many years ago. He’s excited to return to the role after 17 years, especially because this is the first time he-and many fans-will see Flick, Victor, and the rest of the cast brought to life in an animated format. He’s curious about how the characters will be portrayed and what the story will hold, and is hoping to see all 108 characters make an appearance. For now, he’s thrilled about the project and looking forward to the release!
