The franchise is back with a fresh addition, titled as… This movie follows the second trilogy of films and introduces a new ensemble of main actors.
Critics on it panned the new release, giving it a low 51% rating, but audiences seemed to enjoy it more, with a 72% approval score. This makes it the fourth-highest rated film in the Jurassic Park series.
The top-ranked film is still the 1993 original, directed by Steven Spielberg, which has earned universal acclaim from both critics and audiences, boasting an impressive 91% approval rating from both sides. The runner-up in the series was the soft reboot, released in 2015 as “Jurassic World,” starring a fresh cast led by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. Both of them continued their roles in the two sequels that followed.
The subsequent movies in the series failed to leave a positive impact. Specifically, the 1992 sequel titled “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” received unfavorable reviews from both critics and audiences, with 56% negative ratings from critics and 52% from viewers. Similarly, the third installment, released in 2011 as “Jurassic Park III,” garnered even lower scores, with only 49% dissatisfaction from critics and a mere 37% from audiences.
In contrast to the original Jurassic World film, its sequels didn’t fare as well critically. The 2018 release, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, received a 47% rating from critics and a similar score of 48% from viewers. On the other hand, Jurassic World Dominion from 2022 had a lower critics’ score of 29%, but a more favorable 77% approval from the audience.
The movie titled “Jurassic World Rebirth” is well-received, boasting a rating that places it fourth among the seven films in the series. Many critics appreciate it more than the last two installments, “Fallen Kingdom” and “Dominion.” They find it an excellent addition to the franchise. However, some critics have criticized it for being dull and filled with plot inconsistencies, suggesting that perhaps the creators are running low on fresh ideas.
Jurassic World Rebirth Is Already Breaking Franchise Records
The latest project hails from the esteemed director of Godzilla, Gareth Edwards, and boasts a script penned by the original writer, David Koepp. This production features an impressive ensemble consisting of Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Mahershala Ali, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Ed Skrein.
Despite a variety of opinions, it’s worth noting that the Jurassic Park franchise stands among the most financially successful in history. The initial six movies collectively raked in over $6 billion globally, demonstrating its profitability. It seems like the upcoming film, Jurassic World Rebirth, will continue this trend of success.
To make back its $180 million budget, the new movie might be challenging due to the industry standard in Hollywood that a film needs approximately 2.5 times its budget just to cover production costs, distribution, and marketing. This means it would need to earn around $450 million to turn a profit. However, on its Wednesday debut, Jurassic World Rebirth raked in an impressive $30.5 million, which set a new record for the best opening day for any Jurassic film released on a Wednesday. Yet, it didn’t surpass the all-time highest opening day earnings of the previous six entries in the series.
On Thursday, there was a new entry recorded that surpassed expectations slightly but fell short of its initial day’s numbers. In total, the movie “Jurassic World Dominion” is projected to earn approximately $80 million in its first three days and around $137.5 million over its first five days during its opening weekend.
Jurassic World Rebirth is playing in theaters.
