The first live dance competition of Strictly Come Dancing 2025 has concluded, and the judges weren’t shy with their scoring!
Chris Robshaw and Nadiya Bychkova kicked off the show with a Samba to EMF’s “Unbelievable,” which was a challenging dance to start with.
Before the judges announced their scores, they each gave feedback and advice to the former rugby player. One judge, however, didn’t have much positive to say about their performance.
Turning to Craig Revel Horwood, Tess Daly received some critical feedback. He felt the performance, while present, lacked smoothness and energy. He specifically noted a lack of bounce and hip movement, making it appear disconnected. He also advised her to work on her arm and hand movements, describing the overall performance as stiff and heavy.
The crowd loudly disapproved of his answer, but Nadiya told Chris he did well just before they went upstairs to the Clauditorium.

After the dance, Chris shared that he was initially nervous about being the first one out there and performing, but ultimately found it to be a fantastic experience, although he felt there was still room for improvement.
When the scores were announced, the celebrities and dancers who hadn’t performed yet were shocked to see a score of just 14. Claudia lightheartedly warned judge Craig: “You might want to brace yourself at the after-party!”
People have different opinions about the dance, and many have been sharing their reactions and thoughts on the scoring online.
One user acknowledged Chris tried his best, but agreed with Craig’s assessment. Another commented that while Chris Samba needs to improve, his performance was likely better than some others, and he expects improvements in future weeks.
It’s normal to get harsh feedback at the start of a competition like this, and since the public doesn’t get to vote yet, Chris and Nadiya have a good opportunity to show the judges what they can do.
Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One and iPlayer.
