The MCU Just Delivered a Fight 60 Years in the Making (& Declared a Winner)

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for its exciting action sequences. The beginning of *Avengers: Infinity War* features a devastating attack on the Asgardian ship, where Thor is forced to watch his friends fall in battle. It initially appears Loki is abandoning him, but this is actually a clever trick to give the Hulk a chance to fight Thanos – a truly epic showdown for any superhero fan. Even with its massive scale, the MCU can’t fulfill every fan’s wish in live-action, though.

Marvel Studios is now focusing on animation to create fresh stories and explore different possibilities, something they’ve done well with the series *What If…?* For example, it featured an interesting take on T’Challa as Star-Lord. However, the release of the spin-off *Marvel Zombies* – a storyline fans have anticipated for decades – is starting to overshadow the original *What If…?* series.

Red Guardian Finally Meets His American Counterpart in Marvel Zombies

In the fast-paced world of *Marvel Zombies*, Kamala Khan, Riri Williams, and Kate Bishop stumble upon a fight between Captain Marvel and Ikaris and have to keep moving. They quickly find themselves overrun by zombies, and Riri is forced to protect Kamala at all costs. Luckily, Blade shows up just in time and gets Kamala to a S.H.I.E.L.D. base. Instead of finding Nick Fury or other Avengers, they encounter Yelena Belova, Alexei Shostakov, and Melina Vostokoff – former Red Room operatives. They briefly discuss Kamala’s plan to use a beacon to signal for help, but their conversation is interrupted by the arrival of Scarlet Witch’s zombie army.

Melina worked to secure the base while the others got ready for a fight. Red Guardian, however, was preoccupied – he noticed Captain America among the crowd. As Russia’s version of Captain America, he was eager to see how he measured up to the original super-soldier. When Captain America, weakened and injured, arrived, Red Guardian immediately attacked, relentlessly throwing punches. The fight ended with Red Guardian fatally crushing Captain America. This victory was significant for the Russian hero, and he may have another chance to prove himself against his rival soon.

Red Guardian Can Defend His Title in Avengers: Doomsday

With Steve Rogers retired, it’s unlikely Alexei would encounter him. However, Sam Wilson is now Captain America, and he doesn’t approve of the team Red Guardian belongs to. When Sam learns that Valentina Allegra de Fontaine is creating a new group called the New Avengers, he tries to reclaim the “Avengers” name legally. This upsets Red Guardian, who defiantly rebrands his team as the “New Avengerz” and begins publicly mocking Sam.

In *Avengers: Doomsday*, Red Guardian will be tested when he clashes with Sam, who’s eager to become the primary fighter against Doctor Doom. Sam will probably start the fight confidently, believing Red Guardian isn’t as powerful as a super-soldier. However, he shouldn’t underestimate Captain America, who has successfully fought against the Hulk – something Red Guardian hasn’t come close to achieving.

Marvel Zombies is streaming on Disney+.
