Wicked: For Good’s Final Trailer Reveals Two of the Film’s Most Crushing Moments

The latest trailer for *Wicked: For Good* has viewers incredibly excited for the movie, promising to finish the dramatic story of Glinda and Elphaba. It will also connect to the classic *Wizard of Oz*, including its beloved characters. While the trailer is packed with new scenes, two moments will be particularly impactful for fans of the original stage production. Be warned: spoilers ahead for those who haven’t seen the play and want to go in fresh!

As a huge movie fan, I’m really excited about the *Wicked* sequel! One of the coolest things they’re adding is the famous group from the original *Wizard of Oz*. We’ve seen glimpses in the trailers, but it’s becoming clear that Dorothy, the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow, and the Tin Man will play a big role in connecting both stories. The latest trailer finally gave us our first look at how they’re bringing the Tin Man and the Scarecrow to life, and it looks amazing!

Tragic Story of the Tin Man

The trailer includes a moment where the Tin Man appears visibly distressed and confused, asking, “What have you done to me?” This scene follows one where Elphaba is using magic in the same place, suggesting she’s the one he’s addressing – a connection those familiar with the original story will recognize.

In the musical, Elphaba goes to visit her sister, Nessarose, who is now in charge of Munchkinland. It becomes clear that Nessarose is abusing her power to control the Munchkins and prevent Boq (played by Ethan Slater in the movie) from leaving. Elphaba attempts to convince Nessarose to be kinder, but it doesn’t work as planned, and Boq ultimately decides to leave her anyway.

Desperate to win Boq’s affection, Nessarose tries a love spell, but her limited magical ability backfires, tragically shrinking his heart. When Elphaba tries to fix things, her spell goes wrong too, and instead of restoring his heart, she transforms him into the Tin Man, who no longer needs one. This explains the powerful emotional impact of the trailer scene where he heartbreakingly asks Elphaba, “What have you done to me?”

Any question of whether actor Jordan Fisher will play the Tin Man in the upcoming ‘Wicked’ movie was answered when he shared a photo of himself in the Tin Man costume on Instagram. He posted the picture with the caption “Wicked: For Good,” and director Jon Chu responded with a simple, fitting “Heartless.”

Heartbreak and the Scarecrow

As we’ve already discussed, the trailer shows another heartbreaking scene involving the Scarecrow, and like before, his creation is a sad accident caused by wild, uncontrollable magic. The first movie showed a real connection forming between Elphaba and Fiyero (played by Jonathan Bailey), but Fiyero ultimately enters a political relationship with Glinda, all to help the Wizard keep up the pretense that Elphaba is the villain.

Fiyero consistently struggles with his lingering feelings for Elphaba. This ultimately leads him to defy the Wizard when she’s captured. He manages to help her escape, but is then caught and taken for questioning about her whereabouts.

In the song “No Good Deed,” Elphaba tries to cast a spell to save someone from harm, hoping to shield him from pain and death. However, the spell backfires and, instead of simply protecting him, it unexpectedly transforms him into a scarecrow.

This explains why the guards abandon him in the field. However, the trailer reveals that Elphaba eventually finds him after he transforms. We see her gently touch his face, and although we don’t get a full view of Fiyero, the image shows the beginning of his transformation.

We already know how the character will eventually meet Dorothy, but we get another look at how he changes, explained by Hannon. Hannon told VFX Voice that with the Scarecrow, they specifically wanted to maintain Jonathan Bailey’s facial structure and keep his teeth and eye color natural. For his role as Fiyero, Jonathan wore contact lenses to create a different look. Hannon then used a lot of golden blonde coloring for Fiyero, which carried over into the straw-colored wig for the Scarecrow, helping to maintain Fiyero’s attractiveness as he falls in love with Elphaba.

Okay, so that’s the last trailer – which is always a little bittersweet! I think we can expect a few more stills and maybe a short clip or two, but honestly, the real countdown to November has *officially* started. It’s been a long time coming, and now it’s almost here – I’m so excited!

Wicked: For Good will land in theaters on November 21st.
