Fans will get to see Batman back in theaters in 2027 with the release of Matt Reeves’ *The Batman Part II*, though it faced several delays. However, because that film exists in its own separate world, there’s another Batman movie in the works as part of the new DC Universe. DC Studios is developing *The Brave and the Bold*, which will focus on the dynamic between an older Bruce Wayne and his son, Damian. Viewers are excited to see this version of Batman come to life (he already made a brief appearance in the animated *Creature Commandos*), and now we may have a better idea of when it will happen.
So, there’s been a lot of chatter online about *The Brave and the Bold* possibly being delayed until 2030 or 2031, and I just saw James Gunn address it directly on Threads. Someone asked him if that distant release window was the plan, and he gave a pretty straightforward “No.” He didn’t reveal *when* we can actually expect the film, but his response definitely suggests it won’t be *that* far off. It’s good news for fans who were worried about a massive delay, and it gives us a little hope that the film is still on track for a more reasonable release date.
When Could The Brave and the Bold Release?
While DC Studios hasn’t announced a release date for *The Brave and the Bold*, James Gunn has given some hints. He’s said he wants to avoid releasing it in the same year as *The Batman Part II* to prevent audience confusion. Considering *The Batman Part II* is expected in 2027 and a release in the 2030s feels far off, *The Brave and the Bold* is now likely to come out in either 2028 or 2029.
The exact release year is uncertain and depends on how long it takes to finish the script for *The Brave and the Bold*. James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, has emphasized that no movie will start filming until the script is fully approved. While the screenplay is currently in development, delays are possible. If the writing process encounters problems, a 2029 release might be more realistic, allowing time for revisions. It’s better to take the time to get it right, even though fans are eager to see the new DCU Batman, as rushing production could lead to a disappointing result.
Currently, the plans are still flexible, but the idea is to release *The Brave and the Bold* between the new Batman movies directed by Matt Reeves. Reeves has always planned a third Batman film, which wouldn’t likely happen for a few years after *The Batman Part II* – potentially around 2030. This schedule would fit well with the overall DC Universe (DCU) plans at DC Studios. Instead of waiting for Reeves to finish his Batman story, James Gunn and his team could release *The Brave and the Bold* in the meantime, filling the gap between Reeves’ films. This would allow Gunn to introduce the DCU’s Batman to audiences sooner and start developing plans for the character’s future within the universe.
As a DC fan, I’m really excited – and a little curious – to see how audiences react if *The Brave and the Bold* actually hits theaters in 2028 or 2029. James Gunn has mentioned wanting to explore these ‘Elseworlds’ stories, letting filmmakers try out different takes, and while that’s cool, we haven’t really seen that done in live-action before. Having two different Batman universes happening at the same time is a huge challenge for DC Studios. It *could* be confusing, but if they space the movies out and keep the storylines distinct – one with an older, established Batman and his team – I think both films have a real chance to be huge hits.
