Despite the absence of news about Leon at Tokyo Game Show 2025, *Resident Evil Requiem* was well-received, particularly on the Nintendo Switch 2. Early gameplay footage of the handheld version has impressed many, exceeding expectations for a game built specifically for the system.
I was really surprised to learn that this game wasn’t initially designed for the new Switch! Apparently, when the development started, the Switch 2 hadn’t even been announced yet. Producer Masato Kumazawa told IGN they only started exploring the possibility *after* Nintendo revealed the new console. They began testing and developing for it, and everyone thought it would be amazing to bring *Resident Evil* to that platform. It’s cool to hear how they adapted to the new hardware!
So, we started by getting *Resident Evil Village* running on the new hardware internally, and honestly, it looked amazing. That gave us the confidence to plan a Switch 2 version of *Requiem*. That’s what eventually led to our announcement – we’re not just bringing *Requiem* to the Switch 2, but *Resident Evil 7* and *8* will be launching alongside it too!
Kumazawa confirmed the Switch 2 version doesn’t have any special features, which he described as a positive. Considering how good the game looks, he believes most players will be happy with this.
Set to release on February 27, 2026, *Resident Evil Requiem* will be playable on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. While Leon S. Kennedy hasn’t been officially announced, many believe he will be a playable character, offering a more action-packed experience and bigger environments to explore compared to the character Grace. Keep checking back for further details in the months ahead.
