Several new *Star Wars* projects are planned, but fans are disappointed that the highly-rated series *Obi-Wan Kenobi* doesn’t seem to have a future. There hasn’t been any announcement about a second season, and it’s looking unlikely. If the show *were* renewed, would Ewan McGregor be interested in returning as Obi-Wan?
During an appearance at Fan Expo Chicago 2025, the actor responded to a question about his future work, noting he hadn’t filmed anything new since last spring. He then jokingly asked Disney for another season of *Obi-Wan Kenobi*, implying he’s looking for his next role (according to ThePopverse.com).
I’m really hoping for a job, and especially for Disney to renew the show for a second season! It’s time to make it happen – what’s holding things up?
Like Ewan McGregor, I was really hoping to be watching a new season of *Obi-Wan Kenobi* on Disney+ yesterday. He’s shared some ideas about what a second season could include, but so far, Disney hasn’t announced whether it’s happening.

I was surprised to see a very muscular Hutt in the trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu, but learning more about it explained everything. It actually makes a lot of sense!
Hayden Christensen, who played Anakin Skywalker, and others have noted that *Obi-Wan Kenobi* was initially planned as a single, limited series. Even if *Star Wars* wanted to continue the story, they didn’t have scripts prepared when Season 1 finished in 2022. Developing new ideas and getting the cast and crew back together would take considerable time.
It’s common for streaming shows to have long breaks between seasons, so most viewers wouldn’t be surprised if *Obi-Wan Kenobi* got a second season even after a three-year wait. However, renewing the show now could mean an even bigger gap before new episodes arrive, and it’s hard to predict what the story would be after so much time has passed.
As a huge *Star Wars* fan, I’m excited to see what’s coming up! Right now, Lucasfilm is really focused on the movies, but they’ve got a lot in the works. We’ll get another season of *Star Wars: Visions* in October, and then *The Mandalorian and Grogu* movie is slated for 2026. But honestly, that’s just the beginning – they’ve got plans for years to come, which is fantastic! It sounds like the creative team will be busy for a long time, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with.
It’s tough running a big science fiction series because it’s hard to know what fans will really love. This happened with *Star Trek* when *Picard* finished – viewers wanted a continuation of that story, but the creators had different ideas. Hopefully, *Star Wars* can learn from this and maybe bring Obi-Wan Kenobi back for another series, but only time will tell if that will happen.

Disney+ offers a wide range of popular content, including Marvel, Star Wars, and The Simpsons, plus classic movies and shows. You can start streaming with ads for as little as $9.99 per month. For an ad-free experience, it’s $15.99 a month, or you can save 16% by paying $159.99 for an annual subscription. See the deal here.
You can now watch *Obi-Wan Kenobi* on Disney+, where it joins other Star Wars films and series. Ewan McGregor recently talked about wanting to do more, so I’m thinking of rewatching it with the hope that Disney might consider a second season if enough people do!
