Netflix’s Creepiest Anime Gets Renewed for Season 2

I’m so thrilled to hear that *The Summer Hikaru Died* is getting a second season! This show really stuck with me – it was one of the most impactful and honestly, disturbing anime I’ve seen in a while. I’m so glad Netflix recognized how special it was and is bringing it back for more. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

The Summer Hikaru Died anime renewed for Season 2

A second season of the anime *The Summer Hikaru Died* is confirmed! Kadokawa, the publisher of the original manga by Mokumokuren, revealed the news on social media following the conclusion of the first season.

The anime series *The Summer Hikaru Died* premiered in Japan with twelve episodes airing from July to September 2025. The story follows Yoshiki, who notices something is wrong with his friend Hikaru six months after Hikaru mysteriously disappeared for a week, and begins to uncover a disturbing truth.

CygamesPictures animated the first season of the anime. The Japanese voice actors include Chiaki Kobayashi (as Yoshiki Tsujinaka), Shuichiro Umeda (as Hikaru), Yumiri Hanamori (as Asako Yamagishi), Wakana Kowaka (as Rie Kurebayashi), and Chikahiro Kobayashi (as Tanaka). It’s likely that many of these actors will be back for the second season.

Mokumokuren’s manga quickly became popular with both critics and readers after its first volume was released. In addition to an anime adaptation, the story has also been turned into a novel and a stage play, making a second season of the anime almost inevitable.

The anime currently covers only part of the still-publishing manga. Creating anime takes time, and this series, *The Summer Hikaru Died*, is particularly involved due to its mature story, complex ideas, and beautiful visuals. Because the manga is still being written, it’s likely there will be enough new chapters available when it’s time to make a second season of the anime.

The Summer Hikaru Died blends horror, everyday life, and romantic themes. The creator has described the original manga as a young adult horror story that also explores LGBTQ+ relationships.
