For a long time, live-action versions of manga and anime haven’t been well-received, but recently, we’ve seen some really good ones. Netflix’s One Piece live-action series is often credited with changing that trend, proving that these adaptations don’t have to be failures. However, One Piece isn’t the only success story. Another popular manga has also been adapted into a well-received live-action show. Alice in Borderland, which follows the exciting and dangerous adventures of Arisu and Usagi in a post-apocalyptic setting, first launched in 2020.
The newest season, season three, launched on September 25th and is now streaming on the platform, continuing the story of Arisu and Usagi as they face a fresh round of challenges in the Borderland. There was a lot of excitement for the show’s return, and according to FlixPatrol, Alice in Borderland is currently the most popular TV show on Netflix globally. The season ended with a surprising turn of events, leading fans to wonder what might happen next. Although Netflix hasn’t officially announced anything, there’s a trend suggesting the series could be renewed.
Netflix’s Alice in Borderland Likely to Follow Squid Game‘s Path
The most recent season of Alice in Borderland concluded with Arisu and Usagi successfully returning to reality after their challenges in the Borderland. What really captured attention was the ending, which featured earthquakes happening worldwide, even in Los Angeles. The season finished with a shot of a bar in Los Angeles, showing a server named Alice taking customer orders. Although Netflix hasn’t officially announced future plans for Alice in Borderland, it’s clear the series will continue, and this final scene heavily implies a spin-off story taking place in Los Angeles instead of Tokyo.
This is similar to how Netflix handled its other popular show, Squid Game. That series ended its third season by hinting at future events in the United States, potentially leading to a spin-off. Now, Alice in Borderland seems to be taking the same route, with the next season centering around a new main character also named “Alice.” This makes fans wonder if we’ll see the return of beloved characters. While Arisu and Usagi, the main characters from Squid Game, are still alive, unlike the original cast, their future isn’t guaranteed. The next season looks to be an American spin-off, not a continuation of the original story. Despite this, there’s good reason to believe Alice in Borderland will be back.
