Taylor Swift Trolls Herself Ahead of The Life of a Showgirl Release

Taylor Swift is a really tough kid, she can take her own s–t.

Ultimately, the artist known for “Karma” was very self-critical in the recent promotional content for her album, The Life of a Showgirl, which comes out on October 3rd. She gave herself particularly tough feedback while advertising the The Crowd is Your King edition, available exclusively at Target.

“Okay, we’re still filming!” Taylor, dressed as a director, playfully said in a video she posted to Instagram on Sept. 29. “We’re aiming for elegant and luxurious, and we’re shooting in front of the prettiest pink vinyl I’ve ever seen. But what’s up with everyone’s posture? It’s looking more ‘no-girl’ than ‘showgirl.’”

The scene immediately changes to Taylor performing as her alter-ego, “Showgirl Taylor.” She’s wearing a pink leotard and heels and is demonstrating the Summertime Spritz Pink Shimmer Vinyl, which is a special edition available only at Target.

Elegance,” Director Taylor calls out as the Showgirl version of herself clumsily tosses glitter and strikes a pose. “Charm. Not like that.”

Then, almost as an afterthought, Director Taylor quietly tells a crew member-who isn’t visible on camera-“She’s got cat hair all over her.”

“Is there a school we can get her into right away?” Director Taylor asked through a megaphone. “Come on, sweetie, that’s just how things are in this industry.”

We then see showgirl Taylor posing next to a poster for The Life of a Showgirl, and she unintentionally knocks over some paint buckets.

The Life of a Showgirl,” Taylor explains in a voiceover. “This is a special edition, available only at Target. Plus, it comes with a large poster as well.”

Joining in on the fun, the 35-year-old wrote in the caption, along with a laughing emoji, “She has only four days to practice before her important performance.”

As a longtime fan, I’m so excited for Taylor’s twelfth album! She’s been teasing that it’s all about what it *really* means to be a performer – a ‘showgirl,’ as she’s put it. She’s explained that this upcoming LP is going to give us a behind-the-scenes look at the The Eras Tour version of herself, pulling back the curtain on everything. It feels like she’s letting us in on a very personal side of her artistry, and I can’t wait to experience it!

“This album reflects what I was experiencing during the tour, which was incredibly energetic, exciting, and full of life,” Taylor shared on the New Heights podcast on August 13th, appearing with her fiancé Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce. “I’m really proud of it; it’s inspired by a time in my life that was wonderfully joyful, a bit chaotic, and completely captivating.”

As she put it, “That effervescence has come through on this record.”

Taylor Swift definitely had a specific purpose for the countdown clock on her website, which displayed “12 AT 12:12 AM ET” against a sparkly orange backdrop. It wasn’t just there randomly.

Oh my gosh, you guys, on August 12, 2024, paparazzi caught Taylor wearing the *cutest* outfit – a matching plaid miniskirt and cropped jacket! And honestly? It was anything *but* ordinary. Everyone was saying it was a nod to the movie Clueless, but she totally made it her own. There was nothing clueless about *it*!

As sharp-eyed fan Kristen (@perfectlyfine89) noticed, Taylor seems to be deliberately looking at the camera. Also, the orange and green pattern of her clothes is the same color scheme as the cover of The Life of a Showgirl, which Taylor later revealed, exactly a year later, on the Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce‘s New Heights podcast.

A short preview released at 12:12 a.m. ET on August 12, 2025, showed Taylor Swift holding a light-green briefcase with the initials “T.S.” in orange. She then revealed what appears to be the cover art for her upcoming 12th studio album. The image is currently blurred, but clearly features green and orange colors.

Naturally, Taylor seems to really like plaid patterns, and she even showcased a tartan print at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards-during which she famously mentioned “my boyfriend Travis“.

The Life of a Showgirl can now be preordered from Taylor’s website. The website states that any physical copies you order-whether it’s a vinyl record, CD, or cassette tape-will be shipped to you before October 13th.

Okay, it’s well known that Taylor has a thing for the number 13. But, as Kristen pointed out, October 3rd (or 10-3) doesn’t just add up to 13 – it’s also both National Plaid Day and National Boyfriend’s Day. Refer to the image above.

Looking back at things in Taylor Swift’s world, it’s always clearer than ever. On August 11th, the official Taylor Nation social media accounts shared a series of 12 (!) photos showcasing Taylor performing while wearing different orange outfits. The post’s caption read, “Thinking about when she said ‘See you next era…’”

Travis and Jason playfully hinted at a very special guest on a special episode of New Heights-which is coming out on Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. ET, by the way-and even included a shadow in the post that even casual Taylor Swift fans obviously recognized as her.

To celebrate the event, the Empire State Building was lit up in orange ahead of time. The official X (formerly Twitter) account for the New York City landmark shared a picture of the building’s coordinated color scheme on August 11th at 1:45 p.m. ET, with the message, “See you next era.”

Oh my gosh, you guys, I’m still losing it over this! I was rewatching TikToks from her first Miami show on October 18, 2024, and I noticed something *amazing*. She was standing right in front of section A12 at Hard Rock Stadium – A12! Can you even?! It’s like, August 12th, her twelfth album… it *has* to be a sign, right?! I swear, she’s leaving us clues everywhere. It’s just… everything. I’m obsessed! This Eras Tour is seriously magical, and this little detail just proves it. I need to analyze every second of footage, I just know there’s more!

She really made a statement with her outfits! First, she wore a sparkly orange bodysuit while announcing, “Miami, we are so back!” Then, during the 1989 part of the show, she sported a green skirt and orange bustier. And who could forget the incredibly glamorous, white feathery costume she wore while singing “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart”?

Her way of saying that her next album was finished and this is what it looks like?

It’s true that orange and green are also official colors for the Miami Hurricanes-and that’s okay, because multiple things can be correct simultaneously.

A Spotify playlist already exists with the aptly named title “And, baby, that’s show business for you.” It prominently features the now well-known orange T.S. initials set against a green backdrop.

There are, ahem, 22 Taylor Swift songs already created, all produced by the successful Swedish duo Max Martin and Shellback (also known as Karl Johan Schuster). This has led fans to believe she wrote all of The Life of a Showgirl while touring in Europe, and that these two producers assisted her in bringing it to life.

Viewers of the New Heights podcast spotted several boxes in the background with the initials “T.S.” in orange, red, white, and purple. This led to speculation about different versions of the album or the possibility of new music being released.

Taylor Swift enjoyed a fan’s observation on X (previously Twitter) noting that Lady Gaga released her song “Applause” exactly 12 years before Taylor announced Life of a Showgirl on August 12th. What makes this interesting? Taylor had been using “Applause” as the song played before she took the stage at the start of each night of the Eras Tour, alongside Lesley Gore’s “You Don’t Own Me.”

Taylor reacted to a fan’s post suggesting a potential collaboration with Gaga, writing: “Is this just the most insane coincidence or like is she clinically insane.”

Fans, known as Swifties, started wondering if Sabrina Carpenter might be part of Life of a Showgirl after she showed up in the 12th picture of a photo gallery posted by Taylor Nation, hinting at what’s coming next. Plus, Sabrina shared a message on her website revealing the date August 12th.
