Florence Welch is detailing a scary moment in her life.
Following the cancellation of several performances in 2023 due to a private health issue, Florence & the Machine’s lead singer has revealed she came very close to death. She explained that this was caused by an ectopic pregnancy that happened shortly before she turned 37.
I’ll never forget what Florence, who’s 39, told The Guardian in a recent interview on September 27th. She described a moment where she felt incredibly close to both creating life and facing death at the same time. She explained it like walking through a door and finding herself surrounded by women who were screaming. It was a truly powerful image she used to convey how intense that experience was.
Even though the singer of “The Dog Days are Over” had to cancel some concerts while recovering from emergency surgery that saved her life, she surprisingly performed a show while actually experiencing a life-threatening miscarriage.
“Being pregnant and experiencing a miscarriage for the first time, I initially thought it was a somewhat normal part of the process,” Florence-who has been in a relationship with a British guitarist for several years-shared. “My doctor reassured me that while incredibly upsetting, miscarriages are not generally dangerous.”
Remembering the severe pain and bleeding she’d gone through, she said with amazement, “Women! It’s incredible. I just took some ibuprofen and went out on stage.”
However, an ectopic pregnancy-where a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus-can lead to dangerous bleeding if it isn’t treated right away. Following Florence’s performance, her fallopian tube ruptured.
Oh my god, you will *not* believe what Florence went through! She told me herself – she said she literally had the amount of blood that would fill a Coke can *inside* her abdomen! Can you even *imagine*?! She had to have emergency surgery instead of flying to her next show. She was so worried – she said if she’d gotten on that plane, she would have been taken off on a stretcher, or even… well, she didn’t even want to say it, but it was *bad*. I’m just so glad she’s okay! It’s terrifying to think what could have happened.
After the health crisis ended with the removal of her fallopian tube, Florence revealed she went home and released a primal scream, finally letting her fear and grief out in a physical way.
She described the sound she made as similar to the cry of a hurt animal. And with that, it was over. Just ten days later, she was performing on stage again.
Even though it was a difficult experience, Florence feels compelled to tell the story. She’s processing the upsetting emotions it brought up by writing about it on her new album, Everybody Scream, which will be released on Oct. 31.
“Getting back to work was really beneficial,” she explained. “It felt like small lights appearing in the mist. I was able to carefully find my way forward.”

The former star of Total Bellas shared that one of her breast implants moved after being hit in the chest by Piper Niven, another WWE wrestler, during a match in July 2025.
“It’s okay,” she reassured her sister, Bella Garcia, at the time. “We’ll get it fixed eventually. I told the doctor, ‘Now that I’m newly divorced, as soon as I retire, I’m coming back to you, and we’re going to make these horses look fantastic, because they’re going to be competing again soon, and they can’t look like this.’”
The 12 Years a Slave actress received a diagnosis of uterine fibroids-harmless growths that form in or near the uterus-back in 2014. This was the same year she took home an Oscar for her role in the film.
She didn’t share her diagnosis publicly until 2025, when she wrote on Instagram that she had been “suffering in silence” for over ten years. It had been a long and private struggle. This announcement brought her story to light.
She explained that when girls enter puberty, they’re often told that periods are supposed to be painful, and that this pain is just an unavoidable part of womanhood. She added, “We’re often dealing with this issue by ourselves, even though it impacts so many of us.”
In July 2025, the Daisy Jones & The Six star revealed she needed hospital treatment for a hernia-which is a weak spot in the abdominal or groin muscles-and explained it was caused by wearing very tight pants.
‘Suki, you haven’t been posting on X (formerly Twitter) lately,’ she wrote. ‘Did it ever occur to you that I wore pants so incredibly tight six months ago that I actually got a hernia, and I’ve been afraid to mention it?’
The Beverly Hills, 90210 actor shared in April 2025 that he was getting better after surgery to fix a nearly ruptured appendix.
I was really worried when Brian shared a video on Instagram last week explaining what happened. He said he’d been having some stomach pain and ended up needing to go to the emergency room. Turns out, he had a perforated appendix – it wasn’t quite burst, but it was really close! He explained it was just before that point, and honestly, it was a relief to hear he caught it in time. It’s good he’s sharing updates with everyone.
He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”
During a soccer game on September 14th, the Racing Louisville midfielder unexpectedly collapsed only a few minutes into the match against the Seattle Reign at Lumen Field in Seattle.
According to Reuters, the United States Women’s National Team player was seen slowly sitting down on the field, with a teammate supporting her. The referee then signaled for medical staff to evaluate her, and she collapsed just moments later.
According to a post on X (formerly Twitter) that night, Savannah received immediate medical attention at the game and was taken to a nearby hospital for more tests. The National Women’s Soccer League reported that she is currently stable and alert.
Adam Devine revealed that he continues to experience effects from injuries he suffered as a child. He was hit by a cement truck when he was 11 years old, and the consequences are still felt today.
“It’s been incredibly difficult,” Devine shared on the In Depth With Graham Bensinger podcast in 2025. “I experience muscle spasms throughout my body. Recently-within the past year-doctors believed I was facing a life-threatening situation-they told me I was dying.”
I’ve been thinking a lot about pain lately, and it’s just something that comes and goes, you know? It’s part of living, I guess. As I see it, my body isn’t perfect – it has a few quirks and things that aren’t quite right, but that’s just me! It’s just a little wonky in places.
The Bachelor Nation star revealed he had to go to the hospital while literally crawling on his hands and knees because of terrible back pain. The pain got much worse during a road trip he took with a friend.
Oh my gosh, you guys, he was talking about it on his Trading Secrets podcast – it was a March 2025 episode, and he said even *now*, like, bringing his knees to his chest, his legs are still tingly! It’s insane! He was trying to explain how bad it is, and he said, not to sound arrogant or anything, but just a couple of weeks, maybe a month ago, he was squatting 295 pounds! And now? He literally can’t even do a squat! He said he falls over if he tries a one-legged squat. He even said it felt like he had a stroke! I was so worried listening to him!
But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”
Real Housewives of Orange County’s Gina Kirschenheiter revealed that her former husband, Matt Kirschenheiter, had a heart attack in March 2025, but he fortunately pulled through.
The 30 Rock actor experienced a medical issue while attending a New York Knicks game in March 2025, and had to be taken out of Madison Square Garden in a wheelchair.
But the comedian later posted an update on social media, explaining that he had actually suffered from food poisoning and was recovering well.
The former Even Stevens star revealed in February 2025 that she was shot in the face during a birthday outing with her husband, Brendan Rooney. They were on a trip to go clay pigeon shooting when the incident occurred.
She explained on Instagram that another group was with them and accidentally fired a weapon in the wrong direction, hitting her in the face. @thebrendanrooney quickly helped, checked her condition, and took her to the hospital. She was struck five times, and one shot came within an inch of her right eye.
The Kim Possible actress explained, “Sadly, a small piece became stuck behind my eye, and doctors believe it’s too dangerous to try to remove it with surgery right now. They’ll keep checking on me – thankfully, my vision is still normal at the moment.”
Oh my gosh, she actually *said* she’s just so thankful to still be here! It’s like, I’m practically crying just *thinking* about it. She told everyone she loves her daughters, her husband, her whole family and all her friends – so much! And she said – get this – she literally saw her life flash before her eyes! Can you even imagine?! It’s the most profound thing ever, and she’s absolutely right. She said to hug the people around you whenever you get the chance because, seriously, life can change in an instant. I’m just… completely obsessed with everything she says!
Oh my gosh, I was SO worried about Amy Schumer, but honestly, I’m kinda glad the internet can be useful sometimes! It’s usually a terrible place, but in this case, it actually helped her figure things out.
She was talking about it on Call Her Daddy, and she said everyone started commenting on her looking “puffier” after some interviews. She was like, “Guys, chill!” but then… *doctors* started leaving comments! Can you believe it? They were seriously concerned, saying her face looked so off that something was *really* wrong. She was like, “Wait, am I being trolled by doctors?!”
Then these doctors thought she might have Cushing syndrome – something to do with high cortisol or steroid injections. And she suddenly realized, “Oh my gosh, I *have* been getting steroid injections for my scars!”
She had a breast reduction and a C-section, and they gave her these injections, which apparently gave her Cushing syndrome. She said she NEVER would have known if the internet hadn’t, like, attacked her about her face! It’s crazy, right?
Now, she’s just so relieved she’s okay. She shared in her News Not Noise newsletter that finding out she has a type of Cushing that will just go away on its own and that she’s healthy was the best news ever. I’m so happy for her!
During a game in December 2024, an AHL player suffered a cut from another player’s skate and needed 25 stitches to close the wound. After his son made a full recovery, his father, Tom Fitzgerald, the general manager of the New Jersey Devils, shared with ESPN, “We’re very lucky. I wouldn’t want that to happen to any parent.”
Hailey Bieber experienced a terrifying ordeal in March 2022 while having breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She suddenly began showing signs similar to a stroke.
“Justin asked if I was okay,” Hailey shared in a YouTube video a month later, “and I couldn’t answer because I wasn’t sure what was happening. He asked again, and when I tried to speak, I couldn’t. The right side of my face started to droop, and I couldn’t form a sentence.”
Although the facial drooping and speech difficulties eventually passed, Hailey went to the hospital to get checked out.
“They did scans and discovered I had a small blood clot in my brain,” the model explained, “which doctors identified as a TIA [Transient Ischemic Attack].”
Further testing at the University of California, Los Angeles, revealed that Hailey had a hole in her heart called a patent foramen ovale (PFO).
She explained that the blood clot had moved into her heart, went through the hole, and traveled to her brain, causing the TIA.
Hailey said she successfully underwent a procedure to close the PFO and is now feeling well.
The year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also went through one of his own.
In June 2022, the “Baby” singer revealed he was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a condition that temporarily paralyzed parts of his face and led him to cancel the remaining dates of his Justice World Tour.
“This virus affects a nerve in my ear and the nerves in my face, causing paralysis,” Justin explained in a video posted to Instagram. “As you can see, this eye doesn’t blink, I can’t smile on this side, and this nostril won’t move. Basically, this side of my face is completely paralyzed.”
He also shared with his fans that it had become “increasingly difficult to eat.” Fortunately, the paralysis eventually subsided.
“He’s doing really well,” Hailey said on Good Morning America in June 2022, and later added, “He’s feeling much better. It was a very frightening and unexpected situation, but he’s going to be completely fine, and I’m just thankful he’s okay.”
Initially, Jamie Foxx kept the details of his hospitalization in April 2023 confidential, but he eventually shared what happened.
He explained that one day in Atlanta, “I was experiencing a really bad headache, so I asked a friend for an aspirin,” in his 2024 Netflix special What Had Happened Was… “Before I could take it, I lost consciousness. I don’t recall the next 20 days.”
Jamie explained he first saw a doctor who gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home. However, his sister, Deidra Dixon, worried about his condition and took him to the hospital, where doctors discovered he had a brain hemorrhage that resulted in a stroke.
After surgery, twenty days later, the Django Unchainedstar woke up on May 4th in a wheelchair and unable to walk. He then traveled to Chicago to begin rehabilitation and therapy.
“I’m just grateful for every prayer,” he stated, “because I truly needed them all.”
The television personality shared that she experienced a moment akin to “dying” while jogging a mile during the initial challenge of the NBC competition show.
“I don’t recall much,” she shared on Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser. “I do remember the sound of a helicopter. It felt like I was drifting, and then I saw my grandpa. After that, everything went dark, but then I saw a light. That’s when I knew, I just knew I had died that day.”
“My organs were basically failing,” she went on to say. “I didn’t know I had rhabdomyolysis. And rhabdomyolysis is what your body does when it’s about to shut down.”
Emilia Clarke is known for filming intense battle scenes in Game of Thrones, but in 2019 she revealed a personal battle in an essay for The New Yorker titled “A Battle for My Life.”
She described experiencing a severe headache while at the gym, saying, “I reached the toilet, sank to my knees, and proceeded to be violently, voluminously ill.” The pain-sharp, stabbing, and constricting-quickly worsened, and she realized something was seriously wrong with her brain.
Clarke was rushed to the hospital for a brain scan.
“The diagnosis came quickly and was frightening: a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), a life-threatening stroke caused by bleeding around the brain,” the Emmy nominee explained. “I had an aneurysm, which is a rupture in an artery.”
Emilia had immediate surgery to repair the aneurysm, describing the pain as “unbearable.” While recovering, she experienced aphasia, causing her to speak incoherently.
Fortunately, “the aphasia passed” after a week, and Emilia was discharged from the hospital a month after being admitted.
However, a 2013 brain scan revealed that the growth had “doubled in size,” requiring a second surgery.
“When I woke up, I was screaming in pain,” she wrote. “The surgery hadn’t worked. I had a massive bleed, and the doctors told me my chances of survival were very low if they didn’t operate again. This time, they would have to access my brain by opening my skull.”
Thankfully, Emilia shared, she is now “at a hundred per cent.”
Snoop Dogg‘s daughter, Cori Broadus, is thankful for the support of her family.
This came after she experienced a serious stroke in January 2024, prompting her loved ones to quickly come to her aid.
“I texted them that I’d had a stroke and sent a picture,” she explained to TopMob News correspondent Will Marfuggi in December 2024. “Everyone immediately came to my rescue.”
Due to other health issues, Cori ended up needing to stay in the hospital for a longer period than she’d anticipated.
“I could have been discharged after the stroke, but my lupus wasn’t doing well,” the Snoop’s Fatherhood: Cori and Wayne’s Story star shared. “My kidneys were also failing. There was a lot happening at once.”
Currently, Cori is recovering well.
“I’m doing great,” she said. “I just needed to regain some motor skills, but other than that, I’m doing fine.”
Shailene Woodley experienced significant health challenges during her early twenties.
“I got to the point where my hearing was failing. I couldn’t walk for more than five minutes without needing to rest for hours and sleep. Everything I ate caused me stomach pain,” the actress explained on a September 2024 episode of the SHE MD Podcast. “It was a combination of problems, diagnoses, and different doctors giving me conflicting advice.”
Shailene-who has chosen to keep her specific condition private-began searching for answers.
“I grew up with a holistic approach and studied herbalism,” she added. “So I was determined to work with both traditional doctors (MDs) and alternative healers, hoping to find some comfort and peace within myself.”
It was a lengthy process-lasting a full decade.
“Over those ten years, the constant physical discomfort led to other issues,” the Big Little Lies star noted, “like becoming afraid of food because everything hurt my stomach. That then spiraled into body image issues, confusion about who I was, and feeling unsafe in my own body.”
After addressing both her physical and mental wellbeing, Shailene is now feeling much improved.
“Eventually, my body healed itself, and I am very healthy,” she shared. “I’m so grateful to be able to say that.
