The final phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has wrapped up with the debut of Ironheart on Disney+, yet Phase 6 and beyond are already brimming with confirmed films. At present, Marvel Studios is developing a total of 12 confirmed and speculated films, while anticipation builds for around 12 TV series to premiere on Disney+. In theaters, some of the most eagerly awaited MCU movies are approaching, including The Fantastic Four: First Footsteps, Spider-Man’s New Adventure, and upcoming Avengers productions.
To date, Marvel Studios has unveiled 36 films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) over a period of 17 years, starting from 2008’s Iron Man. The majority of these movies have centered around the Avengers team and their individual conflicts against formidable and fearsome adversaries. Most recently, Ironheart brought forth Mephisto (portrayed by Sacha Baron Cohen), one of the upcoming major antagonists in the MCU. Upcoming Marvel films are set to introduce characters such as Galactus, Doctor Doom, and more.
12) The Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25, 2025)
The upcoming Marvel Studios film, titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” will introduce the iconic Marvel superhero team consisting of Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. This movie, directed by Matt Shakman from “WandaVision,” is unique as it marks the first MCU film set in an alternate reality – a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world. This peculiar universe finds itself under threat from Galactus (Ralph Ineson), a planet-devouring entity, and his Herald, Silver Surfer played by Julia Garner’s Shalla-Bal. “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is one of the most eagerly awaited Marvel projects to date.
20th Century Fox struggled to capture the essence of the Fantastic Four in live-action, leaving high expectations for Marvel Studios’ interpretation. The trailers for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, set to premiere on July 25, 2025, hint at an outstanding portrayal of Marvel’s original superhero team. This upcoming film will launch Phase 6 of the MCU and is anticipated to seamlessly connect with the events in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
11) Spider-Man: Brand New Day (July 31, 2026)
On July 31, 2026, the movie “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is scheduled for release, marking the first reunion of Peter Parker’s Spider-Man (played by Tom Holland) since “Spider-Man: No Way Home” in 2021. The events of the previous film ended with everyone forgetting Parker, paving the way for a more somber storyline in “Brand New Day”. Destin Daniel Cretton is directing the sequel following his work on “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” and “Wonder Man”, with Sadie Sink, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher all confirmed to be part of the cast. This suggests that “Brand New Day” will maintain a realistic and intense tone.
10) Avengers: Doomsday (December 18, 2026)
In 2024’s San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel announced that the Russo brothers would be back for “Avengers: Doomsday” and its sequel, with the original title being “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.” However, after Jonathan Majors’ role and Marvel commitments changed, the crossover movie was altered to focus on Doctor Doom instead. Interestingly, Robert Downey Jr., who has been away from the MCU for seven years, is returning for this new project. “Captain America: Brave New World” and “Thunderbolts” are setting up the plot for “Doomsday” by introducing new Avengers teams. However, the main villain of the movie has not yet made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut.
9) Avengers: Secret Wars (December 17, 2027)
After the premiere of Avengers: Doomsday in December 2026, Avengers: Secret Wars is slated to arrive a year later, mirroring the release pattern of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame during Phase 3. Anticipated to retell the Marvel Comics’ Secret Wars storylines from 1984 and 2015, Avengers: Secret Wars might depict the annihilation of the multiverse under Doctor Doom’s rule over Battleworld. Furthermore, hints suggest a revamp of the MCU in this film, potentially introducing fresh characters, storylines, and updated versions of beloved classics that would create an entirely new timeline, making it easier for new viewers to join the franchise.
8) Armor Wars (TBC)
The upcoming film “Avengers: Secret Wars” is currently the scheduled Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie with a confirmed release date, although there are other projects like “Armor Wars” that Marvel hasn’t scheduled yet. Originally announced as a Disney+ series in December 2020, “Armor Wars” was initially planned to feature Don Cheadle reprising his role as James Rhodes (War Machine), carrying on Tony Stark’s legacy. However, it was later revealed that “Armor Wars” would be a feature film in 2022. Development has slowed since then. After the series “Secret Invasion,” there’s an opportunity to delve deeper into the replacement of Rhodey by Skrulls, but it remains uncertain when this project will materialize.
7) Black Panther 3 (TBC)
Following Denzel Washington’s casual revelation about joining Marvel Cinematic Universe in Ryan Coogler’s upcoming “Black Panther 3,” it became necessary for Marvel to validate the project’s progression. Notably, Nate Moore, a former Marvel Studios producer known for his excellence, will be back on board for the production of “Black Panther 3.” In this continuation, we anticipate Letitia Wright’s Shuri to carry on as the Black Panther, and potentially reintroduce Namor (Tenoch Huerta-Mejía), given his debut in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” The storyline of “Black Panther 3” is rumored to unfold post the releases of “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Secret Wars,” which means that the interwoven narratives of Phase 6 could significantly influence the sequel’s plot.
6) Blade (TBC)
Initially stirring excitement at the 2019 SDCC, the highly anticipated Marvel Studios’ Blade reboot has experienced a rocky and changeable production journey. It has cycled through various directors and screenwriters, with filming being temporarily halted on numerous occasions as each creative mind moved on. This instability culminated in the removal of Blade from the release schedule scheduled for October 2024, closely following Wesley Snipes’ return in Deadpool & Wolverine. Recent whispers hint that Marvel may have found a solution to the elusive Blade storyline, suggesting potential updates about this long-awaited reboot may be forthcoming soon.
5) Shang-Chi 2 (TBC)
Phase 4 was a contentious period for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the film “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” gained massive popularity amidst less successful movies and series. The impressive direction by Destin Daniel Cretton resulted in him taking on projects like “Wonder Man” and “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” and he’s also planning a sequel to “Shang-Chi” for the MCU’s future. Actor Simu Liu will reprise his role as Shang-Chi in upcoming films such as “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars.” Following these appearances, it seems likely that we’ll see a solo sequel featuring Shang-Chi, introducing one of the MCU’s most thrilling and electrifying new superheroes.
4) Scarlett Johansson’s MCU Movie (TBC)
For eleven years, from her role in 2010’s “Iron Man 2” to her solo debut and final appearance in 2021’s “Black Widow,” Scarlett Johansson portrayed Natasha Romanoff. Despite a dispute with Disney post the release of “Black Widow,” Marvel announced in November 2021 that they are collaborating with Johansson on a confidential project. During the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes in 2023, Johansson confirmed that work on this project is continuing, and may resume following the strikes. The specifics of this project are yet to be disclosed; however, it appears that Johansson will be directing after her directorial debut with “Eleanor the Great.
3) Deadpool & X-Men (TBC)
Following the unprecedented box office victory of the pairing of Deadpool and Wolverine, breaking records as the highest-earning R-rated film ever, Ryan Reynolds remained tight-lipped about whether a sequel would materialize. However, an article from The Hollywood Reporter published in May 2025 disclosed that Reynolds is indeed spearheading a new Deadpool venture within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), featuring approximately three to four X-Men characters as key players alongside Deadpool. This upcoming project is slated for release following Phase 6, and may align with the MCU’s X-Men reboot, strengthening Deadpool’s ties to mutants compared to his role in the Fox X-Men series.
2) The Fantastic Four 2 (TBC)
I’m excitedly sharing news that Variety hinted at a potential sequel to “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” slated for release on December 15, 2028, within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Although Marvel Studios hasn’t officially confirmed the development of this sequel yet, I trust Variety’s reliability and believe that ‘First Steps’ will pave the way for future movies featuring Marvel’s First Family. The storylines of ‘First Steps’, ‘Doomsday’, and ‘Secret Wars’ will integrate the Fantastic Four into the MCU’s established timeline, meaning they’ll undergo significant transformations before a potential ‘Second Steps’ arrives.
1) X-Men (TBC)
One of the most eagerly awaited movies under development at Marvel Studios is the reboot of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) X-Men series. Until Disney completed its acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019, Fox held the rights to these films. Since then, Marvel has been busy creating a new version of their X-Men project. Characters like Deadpool, Wolverine, and various Avengers teams will say goodbye to the X-Men from Fox’s universe, paving the way for Marvel Studios to introduce a fresh group of mutants, based on iconic characters from Marvel Comics. These new mutants will embark on exciting adventures within the MCU for many years to come.
I, Jake Schreier, am thrilled to announce that I’ve been chosen to direct the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) X-Men reboot. Michael Lesslie, the talented writer behind “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” is penning the script for this exciting project. There’s buzz in the industry that young actors like Sadie Sink, Harris Dickinson, Margaret Qualley, among others, are being considered to embody some of our beloved mutants. These characters are slated to make their debut post-“Avengers: Secret Wars” and during Phase 6’s culmination. The MCU’s X-Men is one of the many highly anticipated mutant-focused films that Marvel Studios is working on in the future.
