While Deadpool and Cable, or Deadpool and Spider-Man are fan favorites, it is only one Deadpool team-up that has grossed a billion dollars – Deadpool alongside Wolverine. Following the box office success of “Deadpool & Wolverine”, Marvel has been eager to recreate that film’s triumph in their comic books. They have already published “Deadpool/Wolverine” as a comic, where the duo collaborate to defeat a villain symbolizing the 1990s. Yet, they didn’t stop there, as they also paired them up with their daughters, resulting in “Wolverines & Deadpools” #1, as both families unite to investigate the vanishings of a small village’s children.

In the first issue of Wolverine & Deadpool, there are some issues to address, but one captivating aspect is a lesser-known detail about Deadpool that many modern fans might miss. As they chase leads together, these two characters run into an adversary who is well-acquainted with Deadpool – Agent X. Agent X is an intriguing character in his own right, and his origins delve into the history of Marvel Comics, marking a period that led to new opportunities within the company. This story is closely linked to Deadpool’s co-creator Rob Liefeld and the market trends of the early 2000s, making it a fascinating exploration of comic book sales during that time.

Agent X Was a Way to Cash In on the X-Men’s Fame

In the ’90s, Deadpool gained recognition and later secured his own solo comic series. However, after a period of popularity, Deadpool began to lose traction, particularly following the departure of writer Joe Kelly. Sales continued to decline, but this wasn’t the only issue; creator Rob Liefeld raised concerns about royalties he believed Marvel owed him for X-Force, Cable, and Deadpool. At times, the character referred to himself as Earth-2’s Deadpool, but it wasn’t until much later that the truth came out. Agent X turned out to be Nijo Minamiyori, a man who held a grudge against Deadpool for his brother’s death and was manipulated into trying to kill him by the Black Swan. A blast ended up merging parts of Deadpool into Nijo’s body, leading people to believe he was indeed Deadpool. The truth wouldn’t be unveiled until later. Agent X had several adventures and eventually found himself caught in a plot to seek revenge against Black Swan. As the situation unfolded, both Nijo and Deadpool regained their memories and faced off multiple times over the years, with Deadpool ultimately saving Nijo’s life. Nijo then moved to the mutant island of Krakoa, last seen before appearing in a fight alongside Wolverine and Deadpool in issue #1 of Wolverines & Deadpools.

Agent X Is the Puppet of a Greater Power

In issue #1 of “Wolverines & Deadpools,” it’s a massive surprise when Wolverine, Deadpool, and Agent X cross paths. Given that Agent X is a hired gun, it’s not too unexpected to see him working for the highest bidder. But what truly stuns everyone is the context: the abduction of children. While Agent X might go to great lengths for money, teaming up with someone who kidnaps kids and slaughters their parents is far from his usual line of work.

Absolutely, in the first issue of “Wolverines & Deadpools,” it’s not just Agent X who springs a surprise. Laura and Ellie, the offspring of Wolverine and Deadpool, find themselves squaring off against Lady Bullseye. This villain isn’t typically one to target children, but the pieces fall into place as the issue concludes, revealing the mastermind behind this situation – the mind-controlling Shadow King. As it turns out, both Agent X and Lady Bullseye are under Shadow King’s control, leaving the Wolverines and Deadpools with a challenging task at hand.
