I’ve always loved Westerns, and while many think their heyday is over, Hollywood still delivers some fantastic films. Classics like Stagecoach, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, and The Searchers really shaped the genre and are still amazing to watch. But about 20 years ago, a new Western came out that I now consider a modern classic – and it has a really interesting connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)! I was thrilled to learn it just found a new place to stream.
With an 89% score from critics and a “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the 2007 remake of 3:10 to Yuma is now streaming on Peacock as of September 1st. This film is a reimagining of the 1957 Western classic with the same title, and it’s originally based on a short story by Elmore Leonard from 1953. The story follows a clash of principles between Ben Wade, played by Russell Crowe-a dangerous outlaw who wreaks havoc in 1800s Arizona-and Dan Evans, portrayed by Christian Bale, a former soldier and now rancher who agrees to transport Wade to the train station for his journey to prison. This sweeping western was directed by James Mangold, who later went on to direct Marvel’s Logan a decade later.
Why You Should Watch 3:10 To Yuma
Although it earned $71 million worldwide on a $55 million budget, 3:10 to Yuma wasn’t a massive box office hit. However, the film is considered one of the best releases of 2007 and a standout Western. James Mangold’s remake successfully expanded on the original story and characters, delving into the complexities of morality through the relationship between the two leads. 3:10 to Yuma focuses more on character development than action, making it an accessible and enjoyable film even for those who don’t usually watch Westerns.
It’s impossible to talk about 3:10 to Yuma without highlighting its incredible cast. Russell Crowe and Christian Bale give outstanding performances as the main characters, and the differences between them make for a really compelling relationship. They’re joined by a fantastic supporting cast featuring Peter Fonda, Gretchen Mol, Ben Foster, Dallas Roberts, Alan Tudyk, Vinessa Shaw, and Logan Lerman. The sheer number of stars is a good enough reason to watch 3:10 to Yuma, but the tough, exciting action and the interesting story about the characters will keep you hooked.
New Movies Streaming on Peacock
3:10 to Yuma was added to Peacock’s streaming service in September, along with several other popular movies. Subscribers can now enjoy films like The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Almost Famous, The Breakfast Club, October Sky, Reservoir Dogs, and The Sixth Sense.
As a movie buff, I’m really excited to see Peacock keep adding to its library! October 1st brought a bunch of awesome titles to the streaming service, including classics like The Crow, Edward Scissorhands, Ghostbusters, How to Train Your Dragon, and World War Z. And the good news doesn’t stop there – they’re adding even more movies all month long! Keep an eye out on October 10th for the streaming debut of the live-action How to Train Your Dragon film – I know I’ll be watching!
