Why You Should be Excited for Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season Two

During Anime Expo 2025, the panel featured an interactive session with producers Yuichiro Fukushi, composers Evan Call, and voice actor Chiaki Kobayashi, who voices Stark in the anime. At this gathering, they shared their experiences working on the highly-acclaimed series and its global fanbase expansion. A notable moment during the panel was when Evan Call mentioned that the battle between Fern and Stark versus Lugner, a scene much loved by fans, is his favorite composition for the series to date.

The story in “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” is adapted from the manga of the same title, featuring the main character Frieren, an elf mage who embarked on a journey 50 years ago to vanquish the Demon King. However, a former ally’s demise prompts Frieren to visit the realm where souls rest in peace, seeking reunion. As elves have extended lifespans, defeating the King seems like an old memory for her. Accompanying Frieren on this fresh journey are two youthful adventurers named Fern and Stark.

In “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End,” the unique narrative unfolds with a significant chunk of the story being recounted via flashbacks as Frieren reminisces about her past exploits with her old comrades. These flashback sequences, featuring Himmel, Eisen, and Heiter, carry an undercurrent of melancholy and nostalgia, as Frieren endeavors to bridge the gap between her present and her past. The latest trailer effectively encapsulates this poignant mood, evoking tears from fans who experienced it in Season One. The first season aired from fall 2023 through spring 2024, concluding on March 22nd, 2024 after 28 episodes. Excitement mounts as Season Two of the anime was officially announced in September 2024, making it one of the most highly anticipated returning series for the Winter 2026 season.
