Great news for Peaky Blinders fans! The upcoming movie won’t be the last we see of the Shelby family. The show has been officially renewed for two more seasons, meaning the saga will continue! It’s fantastic news for viewers.
The seventh and eighth seasons, continuing the series, will be made jointly by the BBC and Netflix. They will be shown on BBC iPlayer and BBC One, and will focus on the story of a new group of Shelbys – the next generation of the family.
Here’s the official description for the upcoming seasons, revealed shortly after the premiere of Knight’s latest Netflix show, House of Guinness: “In 1953 Britain, Birmingham is being rebuilt with concrete and steel following the extensive bombing during WWII, striving for a brighter future.”
A new chapter in Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders begins as a fierce struggle for control of Birmingham’s huge rebuilding efforts. The city presents both incredible chances and serious threats, and the Shelby family finds themselves at the very center of it all-a center stained with violence.
Knight expressed his excitement about the upcoming seasons, which will be filmed at his Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham and take place in the city itself. He stated: “I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story.”
The story will once again be set in Birmingham, focusing on the city’s recovery after the bombing raids of World War II. A new generation of the Shelby family is now in charge, and it promises to be a thrilling journey.

Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, stated: “This show was truly groundbreaking when it first aired 12 years ago and remains one of the BBC’s most popular dramas. Steven has once again delivered fantastic work, and I’m excited to see his scripts realized on set when filming starts in Birmingham.”
As a huge movie and TV buff, I’m really excited to share that I’m following the production of this epic show, which is a collaboration between Kudos, Garrison Drama and Netflix. If you’re a Peaky Blinders fan like me, trust me, there’s going to be plenty of drama to sink your teeth into!
While no actors have been officially announced for the new seasons – each containing six episodes – Cillian Murphy, who famously plays Tommy Shelby, will be involved as an executive producer. It’s currently unknown whether he’ll reprise his role on screen, or if the forthcoming movie will be his last appearance as the beloved character. This is because season 7 will take place two decades after the events of season 6.
So what does this mean?

Naturally, viewers will likely be thrilled to see the Shelby family return, but if Tommy isn’t part of the story – with the show centering on a “new generation” – then the audience might be smaller. Both the character and the actor are, after all, major draws for the series. It’s a key factor in its success.
We’re also curious if this could lessen excitement for the new movie. It once seemed like a major step for the franchise, exploring a different format, and possibly a fitting conclusion to the series, which was already nearing its end after season 6.
Considering the show has two more seasons planned, this film might come across as a short break between those seasons, instead of a truly pivotal event.
Regardless of what happens, we’ll probably have a better idea of what to expect in future seasons after we’ve watched the film. This will help us understand where the story goes with the main characters and the Shelby family as a whole.
