Following the success of Superman in theaters, the DC Universe is expanding its fresh storyline with the second season of Peacemaker, which has been highly praised by critics. The series delves deeper into the mind of Christopher Smith (played by John Cena), making him face a difficult past while also dealing with a complicated story involving different realities. Though the season has received a lot of positive feedback for its clever writing, emotional impact, and Cena’s acting, some fans have voiced one recurring concern. Despite the show being well-made, many viewers have said they’re disappointed by how short each episode is-they usually run about 35 minutes-and wish there was more content.
With just one episode left in Peacemaker Season 2 – which has a total of eight episodes – the show’s creator, James Gunn (who is also a co-CEO of DC Studios), has responded to fans’ worries about how long the finale would be. Gunn announced on social media that the Season 2 finale will be longer than 57 minutes, making it the longest episode the show has ever produced. This news should relieve fans, as it suggests the series will take the necessary time to wrap up all of its open storylines. The extended finale will need to explain what happens to the alternate Earth-X dimension, reveal the real reasons behind Rick Flagg Sr.’s (Frank Grillo) intense search for portal technology, and provide a satisfying emotional conclusion for Christopher Smith himself.
Is It Bad That Peacemaker Episodes Are So Short?
Although some viewers have commented on the shorter length of the episodes, the season’s focused storytelling is actually a major highlight. Every episode of Peacemaker Season 2 is full of clever conversations, intense action, and surprisingly heartfelt moments – there’s no wasted time. What’s more, the season received almost perfect scores on Rotten Tomatoes, even better than the already excellent response to Season 1. This positive feedback indicates that the episodes are just the right length for the story, prioritizing a strong narrative and quality over simply reaching a specific runtime. James Gunn has often praised the creative flexibility that streaming provides, explaining that he concentrates on making the best possible episode, and its length isn’t his primary concern.
The main problem seems to be that the length of the episodes doesn’t quite match what viewers expect. For streaming shows, a “one-hour” drama usually lasts between 42 and 55 minutes-a tradition from old network TV, which needed time for commercials. Because Peacemaker released episodes one at a time, waiting each week made a 35-minute episode feel too short, leaving some fans disappointed. This is a reasonable reaction. But making episodes longer just to hit a certain length often creates pacing issues and weakens the story. By keeping most episodes short and to the point, Gunn keeps the season moving quickly and keeps viewers interested, saving the longest episode for the exciting finale. This finale has enough time to wrap things up nicely and connect to the future Man of Tomorrow movie.
The season finale of Peacemaker is scheduled to premiere on October 9th on HBO Max.
