John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place really captured the public’s imagination when it came out in theaters, exceeding all expectations at the box office with its brilliant use of sound and suspense. The film’s success led to more stories being told within that world, including a sequel, A Quiet Place Part II, which followed the Abbott family’s frightening experiences, and a prequel, A Quiet Place: Day One, showing what happened when the alien invasion first began. With a video game also planned, the franchise has become a major part of modern horror. Fans will be happy to hear that Krasinski is directing the final movie in the trilogy, A Quiet Place Part III. Originally slated for a summer 2027 release, the film’s schedule has changed, meaning audiences will have to wait a little longer to see the conclusion.
Paramount Pictures has changed the release date for A Quiet Place Part III, moving it from July 9, 2027, to July 30, 2027. This shift of three weeks isn’t a huge change, but it does push the final installment of the Abbott family story a little later into the peak summer movie season. Details about the story and who will be in the third film are still secret, which is typical for movies that are still a while away from being released. However, most people anticipate that the film will continue the story right after the surprising ending of the second movie.
The ending of A Quiet Place Part II dramatically shifted the odds for humanity. Regan Abbott (Millicent Simmonds) realized that the feedback from her hearing aid could disable the aliens, and she used this to take over a radio broadcast. She sent out the disabling sound, giving survivors a powerful new defense for the first time. A Quiet Place Part III will probably follow the remaining Abbott family members – including the strong mother Evelyn (Emily Blunt) and her children Regan and Marcus (Noah Jupe) – as they deal with this new stage of the war. Since Lee Abbott (John Krasinski) died in the first movie, the children have had to grow up quickly, and Regan’s discovery makes her a key player in the fight to save humankind.
A Quiet Place 3 Can Reverse an Unfortunate Franchise Trend
As a big fan of the A Quiet Place movies, I’ve noticed something a little worrying. While the series is still doing well at the box office, each new film seems to be getting a slightly less enthusiastic response, both from critics and audiences. The first one, back in 2018, was a total knockout – a near-perfect 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and over $341 million worldwide on just a $17 million budget! A Quiet Place Part II in 2021 was still a hit, but you could see the first hints of things cooling off, with its Rotten Tomatoes score dropping to 91% and a worldwide gross of $297 million. And now, A Quiet Place: Day One has continued that trend. It had the best opening weekend of the series, which is great, but it ultimately made $261 million globally, and the critical score fell to 84% – the lowest of the three films. This definitely presents a real challenge for where they take the story next.
A major benefit for A Quiet Place Part III is the amount of time being taken to develop it. Six years will have passed between the release of Part II and the final film in the trilogy, which is planned for 2027. This is a considerably longer break than the three years between the first and second movies, allowing writer-director John Krasinski the opportunity to refine the script for the concluding chapter and make sure the film is as good as possible.
A Quiet Place Part III is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 30, 2027.
