I Wish We Got More Scenes With Thor: Ragnarok’s Best 2 Villains

We only saw two of the best villains from Thor: Ragnarok in one scene, and we were hoping for more. Released in November 2017 as part of Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor: Ragnarok was Taika Waititi’s first Marvel film, and it quickly became one of the most popular and well-regarded movies in the franchise. Ragnarok injected fun, color, and excitement into the Thor series – something the previous films, Thor and Thor: The Dark World, lacked – and featuring two memorable MCU villains made it even more enjoyable.

Thor: Ragnarok dramatically changed things for the God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth) by taking away everything he cared about: his kingdom of Asgard, his hammer, Mjolnir, and his father, Odin (Anthony Hopkins). With Odin’s passing, his long-hidden first child was freed, unleashing Hela (Cate Blanchett), a fantastic new character in the MCU. Upon arriving, Hela immediately confronted Thor and Loki (Tom Hiddleston), and quickly made her power known by shattering Thor’s magical hammer, Mjolnir, before banishing them from the Bifrost. Surprisingly, this was the only scene Hela and Loki share in Thor: Ragnarok.

Loki and Hela were incredibly compelling and strong villains in the MCU, first showcased in Thor: Ragnarok. Considering they were adopted siblings, it would have been great to see them interact more on screen, especially given the comedic style Taika Waititi brought to the movie in Phase 3. It’s a shame we didn’t get much more of them together, because unused scenes and photos from the making of Ragnarok show that there was almost more screen time between Loki and Hela.

Thor: Ragnarok’s trailer showed that the scene of Odin’s death was originally planned to be quite different in the movie. Rather than dying peacefully in Norway and turning to dust, Odin almost died in New York City, killed by Hela who would then take his place as ruler. The initial idea involved Odin, Thor, and Loki fighting Hela in a longer sequence. However, filmmakers changed this to give Odin a more respectful death and to strengthen the connection between Odin’s life and the magical lock on Hela’s prison in Hell.

On the set of Thor: Ragnarok, there were hints that Loki and Hela might have a scene together after Loki went back to Asgard from Sakaar. We don’t know what would have happened in that scene, but it would have been fantastic to see Hiddleston and Blanchett share more screen time as their famous MCU characters. Now that the multiverse exists, with different versions of both Loki and Hela – including more heroic ones – there’s a chance we could see them together again in Phase 6, perhaps in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.
