It appears the physical Deluxe Edition of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered will be a “code in a box” release for the Xbox Series X. However, the PS5 version may include a disc and a code for the additional Deluxe Edition content. Wario64 spotted that the packaging for both console versions has been changed; the Xbox Series X packaging specifically states that “content download” is required.
However, the PS5 version’s packaging clearly states that an internet connection is needed, and it also comes with a PSN voucher code for the game’s Digital Deluxe content.
There’s been some misunderstanding regarding the physical copies of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, particularly because many games are now released without a physical game disc. A report from last month suggested that the North American and European versions of the game would include a physical disc. However, it’s expected that the rest of the world will only receive a “code in a box” – meaning an empty case containing a code to download the game from the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store, depending on your console. This is similar to a digital purchase in a physical package.
I’m still a little confused about when the game is coming to Xbox Series X/S. Honestly, Bethesda hasn’t said anything yet about whether or not we’ll be getting physical discs with it. I’m hoping they clarify soon! It’s a bit frustrating not knowing, especially as a long-time fan.
The physical Deluxe Edition of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered will come with the original game, brand new quests focused on Akatosh and Mehrunes Dragon Armours, plus weapons and Horse Armour. It also includes the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine expansions, a digital artbook and soundtrack, and a lot of extra downloadable content like Fighter’s Stronghold, Spell Tomes, Vile Lair, Mehrune’s Razor, The Thieves Den, Wizard’s Tower, The Orrery, and the Horse Armor Pack.
Bethesda just recently announced that you’ll be able to buy physical copies of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered starting October 13. They shared the news on social media with a picture from the game’s inventory, showcasing the Oblivion Remastered box. The company posted, “When you’ve explored two goblin caves, a sunken shipwreck, and all of Hackdirt, and you *still* can’t recall where you found an item…”
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered launched on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S earlier this year. As you might expect, it’s an updated version of the 2006 role-playing game that was first released on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. The remastered edition has proven to be very popular since its April release, with reports in July showing it had already attracted 9 million players.
The box art for Oblivion Remastered has been updated to state that an internet connection is needed on PS5, similar to the Xbox Series X requirement for downloading game content.
A PSN voucher code for the digital deluxe content is also included.— Wario64 (@Wario64) October 1, 2025
