You will marvel at Brie Larson‘s vacation style.
Oh my gosh, you guys, I’m *obsessed*! Brie Larson just shared the most amazing pictures from her trip to Tulum, Mexico – it was right before her 36th birthday, can you believe it?! She posted two photos and I literally melted. She’s wearing this stunning bright red and orange striped balconette-style bikini – seriously, where did she get it?! – and paired it with a straw cowboy hat and sunglasses. And get this – she was paddleboarding in a lake! She looks absolutely incredible. I’ve already screenshotted everything, obviously.
Describing her Instagram post from September 29th as “an unparalleled escape,” the Captain Marvel star also posted a photo of herself snorkeling. The post included a picture of fish and turtles swimming in clear water, as well as a beautiful table setup at the high-end beach resort, Hotel Esencia.
Lately, Brie has become more open about sharing her life on social media, particularly after she started training for the role in Captain Marvel.
Honestly, before this film, I was a mess! She told reporters back in 2018 that she didn’t even *know* what being strong felt like. She was a total introvert – and had asthma, can you believe it? – so she said she had so much to overcome. But then, she just started to love it! She started to fall in love with how her body was changing and transforming. I mean, I’ve watched every interview, and she really explains it so beautifully. It’s just… amazing to see her talk about it like that. It’s inspiring, truly!
She went on to say, “It was the first time I felt like I was using my body to *help* me.” She explained, “Before, I didn’t want anyone to talk about my body. It felt like I was being treated as an object, and I just wanted to be seen as intelligent – someone who loved reading and understanding ideas. Anything physical made me uncomfortable. But this felt like a chance to truly *own* my body.”
Indeed, Brie has been open about her body image struggles.
She shared with W magazine in a November 2020 interview that she doesn’t think there’s one single definition of beauty. She explained that she spent much of her life feeling unattractive and like she didn’t fit in, and she truly sympathizes with anyone feeling that way. It took her a long time to become fully comfortable with who she is, and she found peace in realizing she can be exactly who she wants to be.
She went on to say, “It truly saddens me to consider those who don’t feel secure or safe in their own bodies. That’s what I strive for most in life: to do everything I can to help people feel free to be themselves and express who they are-in whatever way feels right for them-understanding that who we are can evolve and change over time.”

During the Captain Marvel premiere in London in February 2019, Brie Larson encountered a young fan who had dressed as her character. They spoke for a bit and then took pictures together on the red carpet alongside Larson’s fellow cast members. The photos were posted on the Marvel UK & Ireland Twitter account, and Larson shared the post, writing, “She’s my hero!”
At the 2018 Crystal + Lucy Awards, Larson received the Crystal Award for Excellence in Film. While accepting the award, she discussed a USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism study which revealed that women and people of color were underrepresented among film critics and reviewers.
You know, I was thinking the exact same thing – “Wow, this just doesn’t feel like the America I know!” And she totally nailed it. She explained that it’s a massive difference from what our country actually looks like. Apparently, roughly 30% of us are white men, 30% are white women, 20% are men of color, and another 20% are women of color. It’s so frustrating to see something so off-base, honestly. It’s like they’re living in a totally different world! I’ve been saying this for ages, and it’s amazing someone finally pointed it out!
In April 2019, Larson and her Avengers: Endgame castmates came together at Disney California Adventure Park to jointly announce a $5 million donation to children’s hospitals nationwide, as part of the Avengers Universe Unites initiative.
The actress is a strong supporter of people who have experienced sexual assault, and she received the Best Actress Oscar in 2016 for playing a survivor of rape in Room. The following year, she presented an Oscar to Casey Affleck, who had previously been accused of sexual harassment in a lawsuit. She seemed hesitant while giving him the award and did not applaud him.
Affleck had denied the harassment claims and he and the plaintiffs settled the matter out of court.
In April 2019, Brie Larson and her fellow stars from Avengers: Endgame joined forces with cancer survivors to participate in public service announcements (PSAs) and posters for Stand Up to Cancer, a charity run by the Entertainment Industry Foundation. The campaign’s message was: “Inside, we are all heroes. Together, we are one POWERFUL movement.”
All those hours at the gym definitely paid off!
