The Hulk’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day Return Gives Me Hope For 1 Forgotten Phase 4 Character

As a huge Marvel fan, I’m so excited to see Bruce Banner’s Hulk coming back in Spider-Man: Brand New Day! It really makes me hopeful that another character we haven’t seen in a while will get another chance to shine on screen. The Hulk has been a huge part of the MCU ever since he first appeared in 2008, even though he’s only had one movie focused just on him. Being one of the original Avengers and a powerful ally to characters like Thor, She-Hulk, and Shang-Chi has made him incredibly important to the whole franchise, so seeing him return in Brand New Day is a really big deal!

It was revealed in August that Mark Ruffalo will reprise his role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He’ll be joining Tom Holland, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Sadie Sink, and others in the upcoming MCU film directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. This will be Ruffalo’s first appearance in the MCU since She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, which aired in October 2022. In that series, he assisted Jennifer Walters in becoming She-Hulk and unexpectedly traveled to Sakaar. Since he didn’t return from Sakaar by himself, Spider-Man: Brand New Day might also see the return of Bruce Banner’s son, Skaar.

Wil Deusner (Stargirl, FBI: International) played Skaar in the final episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Bruce Banner brought his son home from Sakaar to meet relatives like Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany), but Skaar didn’t say a single word and his appearance wasn’t explained. He hasn’t been seen or mentioned in the three years since then, so it would be fantastic if Skaar returned with his father in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This would give us a chance to learn more about his background and establish him as a significant character in the MCU.

I first encountered Skaar during the What If: Planet Hulk event back in 2007, but he really made an impact when he officially debuted in 2008’s World War Hulk #5. It’s a pretty fascinating backstory – he was born on Sakaar while the Hulk was in exile, and his mother, Caiera, was an alien who the Hulk fell in love with. Sadly, he was born *after* his mother passed away, thanks to something called the Old Power. This meant he grew up without either parent, becoming a really tough and ruthless survivor. Eventually, all of that led him to Earth, where he tried to kill his father during the Hulk’s fight with Earth’s heroes, though he didn’t succeed. It’s a tragic and compelling story, really.

Marvel Studios appears to be handling Skaar’s story in the MCU in a new way. When he showed up in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, many fans thought we might see an adaptation of World War Hulk, but it doesn’t look like Skaar will try to harm his father. It would be unexpected if the Hulk doesn’t talk about Skaar in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and even stranger if Banner’s son doesn’t show up at all. It would be a disappointment if Marvel just dropped Skaar’s storyline.
