Over the years, many TV shows have gained renewed popularity on Netflix, significantly impacting the television landscape. Series like The Office and Friends experienced a massive resurgence with a new audience after becoming available on the platform, and shows such as Suits actually reached larger viewership numbers than they did originally. Other programs, including Manifest and Cobra Kai, were revived by Netflix after being dropped by their original networks. Now, another major series is proving to be a hit on the streamer a year after being cancelled, leading many to speculate whether it might be rescued as a result.
Checking Netflix’s current Top 10 TV shows, the series Halo – originally on Paramount+ – has quickly become popular, landing at number 4. Halo is currently only behind Wayward, Love Is Blind, and Doc, and is performing better than Angela, Black Rabbit, House of Guinness, The Way Home, Earthquake: Joke Telling Business, and Wednesday (according to Flix Patrol).
What This Means for a Possible Season 3

Now the big question is: if Halo keeps attracting viewers like it did in its first two seasons on Netflix, will it get renewed for a third season? Things aren’t simple, but it’s definitely possible. The good news is the show significantly improved after season 1, giving it a strong boost in popularity.
Viewers of Halo season 2 met the frightening enemy known as the Flood, who were becoming the main villains for a potential season 3. The season also developed some of the other storylines and focused more on the motivations of John (Master Chief). Season 2 addressed many of the issues people had with season 1, and if renewed for a third season, the show could become truly exceptional.
Netflix has a history of rescuing canceled shows, as they did with both Manifest and Lucifer, giving them a chance to finish their stories. The second season ended with several storylines and major conflicts still open, so getting at least one more season to resolve those issues would be an ideal outcome.
The Halo franchise has faced some challenges recently, but with a new game potentially on the way – likely to be revealed at the Halo World Championship this month – now could be an ideal moment for the Halo TV show to come back. This is particularly true if the announced game turns out to be the remake of Halo: Combat Evolved that fans have been waiting for.
A Run Cut Short

Sadly, Paramount cancelled the series in July 2024. The studio issued a statement thanking the team for their dedication, despite the show’s end. However, they didn’t explain the reason for the cancellation.
Paramount+ expressed immense pride in this large-scale series. In a statement, they thanked their collaborators at Xbox, 343 Industries, and Amblin Television. They also acknowledged showrunner and executive producer David Wiener, the other executive producers, the entire cast – especially Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief – and the dedicated crew for their exceptional contributions. Paramount+ concluded by wishing everyone success in the future.
“We deeply appreciate the millions of fans who propelled the Halo series to be a global success and we remain committed to broadening the Halo universe in different ways in the future,” 343 Industries said in a statement. “We are grateful to Amblin and Paramount for their partnership in bringing our expansive sci-fi universe to viewers around the world.”
It’s still too early to know for sure, but the Halo series on Netflix has begun very well, and hopefully, we’ll get to see Master Chief and Cortana together on screen again.
