The Fantastic Four, led by Reed Richards, will find themselves in a challenging situation as they enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”. The Silver Surfer is en route to Earth, signaling Galactus’ imminent arrival. Meanwhile, Sue Storm’s pregnancy will add an unexpected complication to their already heavy responsibilities. Despite this, they must focus on finding a way to deter the Devourer of Worlds from consuming Earth. However, even if they successfully repel Galactus, they won’t have long to breathe easy as Doctor Doom is poised for action in “Avengers: Doomsday”.
Encountering their two most recognized antagonists will certainly challenge the resolve of the Fantastic Four. However, it appears there’s another nemesis they need to be wary of – Mole Man. Surprisingly, he wasn’t featured in any promotional materials for First Steps, but he does play a role in the film and a well-known actor is breathing life into him.
The official Fantastic Four prequel comic confirms Paul Walter Hauser is playing Mole Man

Marvel Comics is preparing to debut “The Fantastic Four: First Footsteps #1“, a companion comic book delving into the beginnings of Marvel’s original family within the MCU. Previews from the graphic novel are surfacing online, hinting at the team’s journey into space that grants them their extraordinary abilities. Yet, this is mere appetizer compared to the likeness of Mole Man, who appears strikingly similar to Paul Walter Hauser.
Hauser has made a name for himself in films such as “Cruella” and “Richard Jewel,” and more recently, he wrapped up playing Stingray in the Netflix sequel to “The Karate Kid,” titled “Cobra Kai.” His diligence is evidently bearing fruit, as he’s now involved with Marvel Studios. Although the details of his role were previously concealed, it has now been revealed.
Mole Man Is One of Marvel’s Oldest Villains
Harvey Rupert Elder, commonly known as Mole Man, had the distinction of being the first adversary the Fantastic Four encountered in battle. Initially, he was a scientist who passionately advocated the idea of a hollow Earth. His peers found his theory absurd and even ridiculed him for his physical appearance. With no companions on the Earth’s surface, Elder delved into the unknown below it and eventually discovered Subterranea – a mysterious realm inhabited by strange creatures called Moloids.
In no time at all, Elder transformed into his Mole Man character and vowed to wage war against those living on the surface. With his expertise in nuclear energy, he focused his attacks on power stations worldwide, an action that didn’t sit well with the Fantastic Four. The recently established team managed to defeat the antagonist, garnering global attention. While Mole Man’s origins in the MCU may draw heavily from the original material, it seems unlikely that he will play a significant role in First Steps.
During the Fan Expo in June, the actor portraying Human Torch, Joseph Quinn, announced that Mole Man will appear in the forthcoming Marvel film. Although he didn’t mention anything about Hauser playing Mole Man, it was made clear that this villain won’t overshadow Galactus as the main character.
Absolutely, our cast is truly impressive with many captivating characters to look forward to. Additionally, Mole Man plays an excellent role, but the main antagonist is none other than Galactus.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters on July 25, 2025.
