It’s not mystery: Jeremy Renner is back at work.
The actor’s role in the new movie, *Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery*, marks his return to acting after a serious snowplow accident in 2023. He suffered 30 broken bones and other critical injuries in the incident.
Jeremy shared with TopMob News at the Sense of Home 10th Anniversary Gala that he enjoyed being part of a large, successful film. He and his sister, Kym Renner, were recognized at the event for their charitable work through the RennerVation Foundation. He added that the role didn’t require a huge commitment from him.
Jeremy felt like he wasn’t even working while filming, thanks to the incredible cast including Daniel Craig, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, and Kerry Washington.
The 54-year-old praised the movie, calling both the director, Rian Johnson, and the cast fantastic. They also said they really enjoyed the experience.
Jeremy, along with his family—including his 12-year-old daughter Ava, whose mother is his ex-partner Sonni Pacheco—spent the summer in Europe while filming the mystery movie.
I had 15 family members visit, and they enjoyed a full summer vacation in Europe, he said with a laugh. I did have to work, but honestly, my job is basically playing pretend, so it wasn’t so bad.
Jeremy’s road to recovery has been remarkable. He suffered devastating injuries when a 14,000-pound snowplow hit him near his Nevada home on New Year’s Day in 2023, and he even thought he had died as a result of the accident.
Let me tell you, sometimes life throws you a curveball you just don’t see coming. I remember vividly, it was New Year’s Day, and I was outside when everything just…stopped. My heart rate slowed, and I felt this overwhelming fatigue wash over me. It sounds strange to say, but in that moment, right there on my driveway, I essentially died. No one – not my daughter, my sisters, my friends, or even my parents – knew what was happening. It was a truly out-of-body experience, as I detail in my memoir, *My Next Breath*.
Jeremy went on to explain, “I know I died—I’m certain of it. The paramedics said my heart rate dropped to 18 beats per minute when they arrived, and at that point, you’re essentially gone.”
Despite being a frightening experience, he also felt an incredible, yet strangely peaceful, surge of energy – a feeling he described as ‘electric serenity’.
I’ll never forget that feeling – a stillness, a quiet emptiness, but somehow brimming with every moment and all of eternity. It was the first time I truly felt outside of time, like my life wasn’t measured by it anymore. It was a place of incredible beauty, filled with a magic you could actually *feel*.

In February 2017, Jamie Lynn Spears’ daughter, Maddie Aldridge, then eight years old, was riding an ATV near their home in Louisiana when it overturned into a pond. She was underwater for several minutes.
Jamie Lynn remembered thinking her daughter had died when she was pulled from the water and first responders took over, as she shared on the 2020 Better Together podcast with Maria Menounos. “We thought we’d lost her,” she said.
Although the extent of her injuries was initially unclear, Maddie regained consciousness and was able to speak within two days. She was back to her everyday life just a few weeks later.
Jamie Lynn shared that she feels incredibly grateful to have her daughter back after a difficult time where she thought she had lost her. She described it as a true blessing.
An accidental prop gun strike injured Rebel Wilson on the set of her 2025 action comedy, *Bride Hard*. During a fight scene on her final day of filming, a gun hit her in the face, splitting her nose. “It was a complete accident,” Wilson told *Access Hollywood* in June 2025. “I had to leave the set—it was my last night! I just couldn’t believe how unlucky I was.”
She described being terrified after the 2023 incident, explaining she was surrounded by her own blood. An ambulance was called, and a plastic surgeon had to be brought in to prevent permanent scarring. Thankfully, the surgeon was able to stitch up the wound so well that you can’t even tell it happened now.
Jimmy Fallon, the host of *The Tonight Show*, had a scary accident at home. He tripped and fell, and while trying to brace himself, his ring caught on something, dislocating his finger.
Doctors hospitalized him for ten days to try and save his finger after he suffered a severe ring injury, known as “ring avulsion,” that threatened amputation.
In June 2025, Zane Wach, a seasoned hiker and multi-sport athlete who competes in long-distance running, swimming, and triathlons, almost succumbed to altitude sickness while hiking Mount Whitney in California with his father, Ryan Wach.
Ryan told SFGATE that the 14-year-old began having hallucinations, but was aware they weren’t real. He reported seeing things like snowmen and Kermit the Frog.
Ryan had to repeatedly stop his teenage son from walking off the cliff as they hiked back down the trail. The father explained that his son seemed disoriented and they still weren’t sure why. He suspects it was a mix of being tired, not getting enough sleep, possible dehydration, and lingering effects from altitude sickness, which caused his son to question what was real.
After two failed attempts to reach Zane, Ryan watched helplessly as his son tumbled about 120 feet down a cliff. It took six hours for a rescue helicopter from Inyo County to arrive and transport Zane to the hospital in Lone Pine, where he was initially stabilized before being moved to a specialized trauma center for children in Las Vegas. Doctors put Zane into a medically induced coma, but thankfully, he eventually started breathing independently.
Ryan described his teenager’s recovery from a severe accident – including a head injury, broken finger and ankle, and fractured pelvis – as a long journey. He said, ‘We’re still in the thick of it, but we expect him to survive and recover.’
On New Year’s Day in 2023, actor Jeremy Renner, known for his role in *Avengers*, was seriously injured while helping a family member. He was using a snowplow to free a stuck truck near his Lake Tahoe home when he got out to check on it. The plow then started moving on its own, and Renner was pulled under, resulting in 38 broken bones as he tried to prevent it from hitting his nephew.
In his 2025 memoir, My Next Breath, he described lying on the ice on New Year’s Day, his heartbeat slowing. He wrote that after about thirty minutes of manually breathing – a strenuous effort like doing ten to twenty push-ups a minute for half an hour – he simply grew tired and died, unbeknownst to his daughter, sisters, friends, or parents.
Despite suffering broken bones, significant blood loss, and the danger of dangerously low body temperature, he believed he had died. He wrote that paramedics found his heart rate had dropped to just 18 beats per minute, which he stated is essentially a fatal rate.
In May 2025, TikTok creator Emilie Kiser and her husband, Brady, experienced a terrifying ordeal when their 3-year-old son, Trigg, accidentally fell into their swimming pool at their home in Arizona.
On May 12th, Chandler Police responded to a home after a child was found unconscious in a backyard pool. Police and firefighters attempted CPR at the scene before transporting the child, Trigg, to Chandler Regional Hospital. Sadly, Trigg died six days later.
Emilie filed a lawsuit asking the court to prevent Maricopa County from releasing details about his death. The lawsuit explained that Emilie is focused on caring for her two-month-old son, Theodore, and is struggling every day with the situation.
Dr. Cara Hodgson experienced a terrifying family vacation in Thailand when she was shocked by power lines in December 2023. After losing consciousness, she was immediately taken to the emergency room and spent the next eleven days in and out of hospitals, struggling to recover. In a New Year’s Day Instagram post, the influencer expressed her gratitude, saying, “I am so lucky to be alive today.”
Despite the discomfort, the orthodontist discovered a renewed appreciation for life. Cara explained that the experience reminded her – and all of us – of how wonderful it is to simply be alive. Being able to breathe, eat, speak, and move are incredible gifts worth celebrating, especially when we get bogged down in everyday worries.
As a travel and lifestyle expert, I was deeply saddened to hear about the tragic accident involving Juliana Marins, a Brazilian tourist, on Mount Rinjani in Indonesia last June. She was hiking when she unfortunately fell from a cliff – thankfully not into the volcano itself. It took a massive search effort – 48 rescuers spent four long days battling tough weather, challenging terrain, and poor visibility – before they were able to find her. It’s a heartbreaking reminder of the risks involved in adventurous travel, and my heart goes out to her family and friends.
It’s with a heavy heart that I share some incredibly sad news. I just learned from Juliana Marins’ family’s Instagram that, despite the best efforts of the rescue team who finally reached her location, she didn’t make it. They’ve expressed their deep gratitude for all the love, prayers, and support everyone sent their way, and I want to echo that sentiment. It’s a heartbreaking reminder to cherish every moment and hold loved ones close.
In 2015, actress Tori Spelling, known for her role on *Beverly Hills, 90210*, suffered a burn on her right arm while at an Easter brunch at Benihana. She tripped and fell onto a hot Hibachi grill, requiring skin grafts. She later decided to file a lawsuit against the restaurant.
Okay, so you will NOT believe this, but I’m literally walking around with a piece of my thigh on my arm! I was telling Jennie on our podcast, *9021OMG*, and I swear, it’s true. I had a really bad burn, and the doctors had to do a skin graft. It sounds crazy, but I actually said it on the air – not many people can say they’re wearing their thigh on their arm, and I’m totally not exaggerating! It’s just a thin layer of skin, but it’s *from my thigh*! It’s wild.
Comedian Tony Knight tragically died in June 2024 at the Rock&Cars festival in France when he was struck by falling tree branches. He was 54 years old and enjoying life, according to Joanne Allen, the sister of his partner, Hayley Wright. Allen described Knight as fit, healthy, happy, and full of life, noting his charisma, humor, and passion.
He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Haley shared on Instagram that he was incredibly talented and could turn his hand to anything. She remembered him as a wonderful friend, a devoted dog owner, and, above all, the most important person in her life, saying things will never be the same without him.
A company celebration turned disastrous in January 2024. During a party in India to launch the 25th anniversary of Chicago software company Vistex, CEO Sanjay Shah and President Vishwanath Raju Datla were meant to descend in an iron cage onto a raised platform. However, according to a report in *The Times of India*, two cables failed, causing the cage to fall and crash onto the concrete stage.
Sanjay, age 56, died at the hospital after the accident, according to reports. Vishwanath, 52, suffered a serious head injury and sadly died several months later.
In a 2022 Instagram video with UNICEF, Orlando Bloom revealed that when he was 19, he fell three stories from a window and broke his back. He was attempting to climb onto a rooftop with friends when the drainpipe he was holding onto gave way. Despite breaking several vertebrae, he considered himself lucky to have survived, as his spinal cord hadn’t been completely severed.
He explained that doctors initially told him, during his hospital stay, that he might never walk again. This was the start of a difficult process of realizing and understanding how certain recurring patterns in his life had contributed to a series of accidents, ultimately culminating in a life-threatening spinal fracture.
After leaving the hospital wearing a back brace and struggling with both physical and emotional pain, he immediately started going out and partying – still wearing the brace, he told GQ in 2005. It took a few months for him to accept this new reality and decide he needed to turn his life around.
He said the experience completely changed his perspective on life. He realized he hadn’t fully appreciated things until he almost lost everything. He used to be a reckless driver and motorcyclist, always pushing his limits, not for the thrill of it, but because he enjoyed the adrenaline. Now, he’s much more relaxed and cautious.
