PlayStation Reveals New PS5 DualSense Controller That Will Hurt Your Eyes

PlayStation recently announced a new DualSense controller for the PS5 that has a rather unusual design. Special Edition DualSense controllers are often popular with fans – like the one inspired by the original PlayStation or the *Astro Bot* gamepad. However, this upcoming exclusive controller might not be as well-received, as its appearance could be a bit jarring.

Sony recently revealed a new blue version of its DualSense controller for the PlayStation 5 on the PlayStation Blog. Called “Icon Blue,” the controller is entirely blue, with slightly darker shades on the exterior and lighter shades on the thumbsticks and touchpad. It will be available in the US and Canada starting October 20th for $84.99.

This DualSense Is Ugly, But Has Some Redeeming Qualities

I generally don’t like the color scheme of this DualSense controller. It’s not the ugliest PS5 controller ever made, but the colors are just too bright and clash with each other. A solid blue controller could have looked good, but the shades of blue PlayStation used don’t quite work together.

Even with its flaws, the controller has a few appealing features. Notably, the touchpad includes the classic PlayStation button shapes – Square, Triangle, Circle, and Cross – which you won’t find on other PS5 controllers. While it’s not a game-changer, it’s a welcome addition.

The back of the DualSense controller features a hidden detail: the PlayStation name written in Japanese characters (Katakana) as “Pureisutēshon.” It’s a neat little surprise, though it’s unclear why it was included. It might have fit better on last year’s 30th Anniversary DualSense controller. Even so, it’s a cool touch, although it doesn’t completely change the controller’s somewhat awkward appearance.
